I am not 100% sure what to put on here, I'm a junior in NJ. My SAT score is a 1830: 660 critical reading, 610 math, and 560 writing. I am planning on taking the SATs again, shooting for a 2000 hopeful thinking. I took all honors classed 9th and 10th grade. My schedule this year: Lang. AP, US 2 AP, Psych. AP, Physics Honors, Spanish 4 Honors, Precalc, and band. Senior year's schedule: Lit & Comp AP, Euro AP, Calc ab AP, Physics 2 advanced topics, yearbook, band, sociology and current world issues. I have a 94.5 GPA (not sure how to convert that into the 4.0 scale). I am varsity for swim team, and i'm the marching band. I am in National Honor Society, Junior Statesman of American, Key club, jazz band, and i have i often volunteer at blood drives. I have played in the pit band for 2 musicals. I am cast in the Student production. I am anticipating being part of the music, science, social studies, and theater honor societies. I am planning to run for SGA treasurer and Trumpet section leader of the marching band next year. I have also worked every summer beginning in 8th grade. I am now a lige guard. I visited GW and i absolutely fell in love. I need to go! I want to major is Political science...so GW is the place for me. What are my chances of getting in? Thanks!

Everything looks absolutely fine except for the following:

Your SAT score is low for GW. Their average is something like a 1950, however, ~2000 seems to be the score that gets people in consistently.

Give yourself that extra advantage. Interview if you can, either on or off campus.

And obviously, make sure you don’t mess up the essays or anything like that.

I’m just posting to reemphasize everything that CollegeJawn said, because CollegeJawn is completely correct!

If you get your SAT up to the 2000 range, you should be fine.

Someone in the admissions department told me if you interview, your chances automatically jump up to 50%.

And the Why GW? essay is crucial. Demonstrate why you really want to go to the school. This really shouldn’t be that hard for you because you said its your number one school!

But for what’s worth, I got a 1820 on the SAT and still getting in.

^ what they said .

but try again with the SAT . after 3 tries, stop. my SAT score was in the low 1900s so its all good. but ED really helps you out. they even said it themselves when i visited

To apply for an interview, do I just email the office of admissions? Also, would I interview now as a junior, or next year as a senior. I am planning on applying early decision.

Interviews don’t start until around the beginning of your senior year. As in, you wont be able to signup for one until then.

https://gwapplication.gwu.edu/login/login.cfm

^^ Register there! I didn’t use the Common App website for GW and I dont regret it. I think it made the entire process easier for me since GW was all set. My application was in one place, the page where it told me if they required anything else was in one place and then my acceptance was also in one place.

You could probably start the application process too, but its kind of early. But definitely register.

There will be a little option that says “Schedule an Interview” or something. If you click on it now, interviews wont be available. Check back late summer regularly to see when it is up again!

Signup for an interview and go!

Good luck :D
