Hello, I’m very anxious about college acceptance nearby and I’m looking for some reassurance (or a scare, depending on my chances getting into a certain school) about if I will get accepted into some of the universities I applied to.
I applied to: every UC EXCEPT UCM and UCR, USC, SDSU, and Cal Poly SLO.
Here are some of my info: Majoring in Computer Science, 3.97 weighted gpa, 1330 on the new SAT, 26 (I know, that’s a very bad score) on the ACT, 4 years on the robotics club as a programmer, 1 year in the National Honors Society, 3 on the AP Physics 1 exam, 2 on the AP Euro history exam, 8 total AP classes taken, 6 total honors classes taken, stated on my application that I plan on taking the AP us gov exam and the ap calculus bc w/ ab subscore exam, around 220 hours of volunteer work, above average (according to an english teacher of mine) personal insights for the UCs. Lastly, although affirmative action is ‘outlawed’ in california, I am a racial minority.
Thanks in advance. Please be as honest as possible, whether its good news or bad. I’ll update this thread at the very end of March. See you all then
Well, SLO and UCD decisions are out. Did you get into either of these schools?
I have not gotten my SLO decision yet, but some of the people in my classes have. I have not gotten an email from them and I check my student portal daily and my decision isn’t there. And I got rejected from UCD unfortunately.
CS has become ultra competitive so it is very hard to determine anyone’s chances these days. I would say UCSC and SDSU should accept you. UCI is possible and the rest of the UC’s probably will be very tough but you never know since the UC’s are very unpredictable. Best of luck and you should know within the next few weeks.
Alright, thank you. Upon further research, Cal Poly’s admittance system is apparently very bad. Decisions are random. Some say they do it based on major. But my major is heavily impacted so you’d think it’d be a top priority to release decisions…
Upon even more research, SLO acceptances are sent out first, which is in literally February; whilst rejections are sent late March to April. So RIP me.
All Cal states admit by major. CS at SLO is the most competitive major overall with around a 7% acceptance rate or less. Do you have a safety school on your list, like your local CSU?
Unfortunately no. I considered SDSU to be a backup because for some odd reason I was rather arrogant when I was applying to colleges. I know I’m not the best student, but I just looked at the raw data and saw SDSU as a backup. Later I found out that SDSU is kind of obscure when it comes to admitting people, but I digress. Anyways, I was looking for backup schools after reality hit me and some CSUs are still open for admission.
Your weighted GPA, SAT/ACT scores, and AP scores are too low for UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, UCSD, UCSB, and UC Irvine. You have a chance at getting into State or Riverside, and if some other CSU’s are still open you should apply, just in case. It’d be better to have some relatively unappealing options rather than no options whatsoever.
You also have a chance at UC Santa Cruz
Well I have a lower SAT but got the chancellors reception invite for ucsb. So there’s still a chance.
Update: rejected from UC Davis and Cal Poly SLO. Waitlisted into UCSC.
It is an unbelievably frustrating process. UCR and SDSU are likely to come through for you.
Good luck.
4254 SAT EI…what are my chances into SDSU? also, is the high school gpa average on sdsu’s admissions website talking about the admits’ gpa on transcript or csu gpa?
@panicatthepilot a lower sat than me or a lower sat than ucsb’s average?
seems like your stats are a tad bit better than mine but your major is super high impact
Update for March 16: rejected from: UC Davis, UCLA, UCSD, Cal Poly SLO. waitlisted: UC Santa Cruz. Waiting to hear from UCI, SDSU, UCB, USC, UCSB. Not looking very good at all. If SDSU doesn’t come through, I’ll have to go to CC and my hard work would have accomplished nothing.
Update for March 19: Accepted into SDSU under Computer Science
Congratulations on your SDSU acceptance. Go Aztecs!!!
Thank you! And update for March 20: rejected from UCSB.
