What are my chances of getting into Boston College, Northeastern, SUNY Stony Brook, and Fairfield U
My GPA is a 4.0 but I scored very low on the SAT (1570)
I play sports, received math and science awards, started & participated in multiple clubs, and did a lot of community service throughout high school… What are my chances?
A 1570 SAT will make BC and Northeastern out of reach. Try taking the ACT.
To any admissions committee, a 4.0 and a 1570 SAT will say “grade inflation.” Have you taken any AP courses?
If the answer is yes, we’d need to know your scores-a similar disconnect between test results and GPA would be a serious issue, and might indicate that teachers at your school are going easy on students, which ultimately does them a disservice when they reach college.
If you haven’t taken any AP courses, it’ll be tough to make the case that your course rigor is enough for these schools.
I took APUSH and scored a 4 on the exam & this year I will be taking AP Calc & AP Macroeconomics
I also scored in the 90s on all of my NYS regents exams.
Last year’s salutorian in my kids’ school (which is in the top 6% in the country) scored 1,600 on the SAT and got in to Johns Hopkins, I believe that a low SAT and a 4.0 GPA does not necessarily say “grade inflation”, but that some kids are just not good test-takers. Class rank and other honors/accomplishments give admission committees a better picture of an applicant than just a random test score.
