Will I get into Northeastern Univ. and/or Boston College?

Hello! I’m currently a senior at a public school with a 4.1(W) and a 3.6(UW). I got a 31 on my ACTs so far but I just took another one and I don’t know my score yet. I have a couple extracurriculars and although I’m not sure if my essay is really great, I think it shouldn’t be too bad. What do you think my chances are? Truth only please!!

I think that your UW GPA could be an issue for BC. Don’t know about NEU.

Have your parents run the NPCs on both schools’ websites and determined them to be affordable?

Yes, both of them are affordable

You’ll get a look at both schools. Your chances will be average. You are qualified, but both schools get so many apps it is certainly not a sure thing

Your SAT and GPA make both schools low reaches.

So both schools are probably too hard for me to get in?

It means that you have a chance at both schools but have some less selective schools on your list.

Disagree, I think you’ll get into Northeastern and rejected at BC. At least from my school, Northeastern tends to accept B+/A- kids in honors and AP classes, 1950 SATers. BC always accepts the 3.8 guys/2100 sat. BC is extremely numbers centric and your GPA isn’t up there. My friend who had an ok GPA 3.5ish, 2000 SAT, and awesome music ECs got rejected but people with no ECs and high stats get in there. That kid is a freshman at northeastern now.

I don’t like what everyone said about both being low reaches. I think you have much better chances at northeastern then they said but worse chances at bc

@blueguy99 Northeastern’s mid 50% for enrolled freshmen in 2015 was 2020-2200.

for BC it was 1950-2150

I am sorry that you don’t like it.

Okay so you’re saying that I have a bigger chance in getting into northeastern than BC even though the SAT average at BC is lower than Northeastern? Sorry I’m getting a bit confused with all these different comments.

Who do you want to believe: blueguy99 who is also a high school senior or published stats?

Unless northeasterns stats went way up this year, I find that hard to believe. Northeastern is always considered less selective and a lot of people from my school go to both. The northeastern kids have a 4.18 weighted GPA, and BC has about a 4.4 from my school on naviance

cant explain the sat difference but just wait until your admission decisions. You’ll see

This could explain the posts here on CC last year by students who were denied EA, ED and RD at Northeastern. They were “shocked” because as “everyone knows” Northeastern is not that selective.

Northeastern recently became very, very selective so its reputation with most people hasn’t caught up yet. They are for sure more numbers-oriented than BC and have a lower overall admit rate at this point.
