I applied early decision to Boston University it is my dream school. I have a 3.24 UW gpa, I took 3 IB/AP classes in high school. I am not submitting test scores. The reason for my low GPA is I went through school with severe ADHD and I was undiagnosed until a few months ago. I go to a private college prep school (the best high school in my state). I am super passionate about film so I am applying as a film major. For EC’s I am on the film leadership board at my school, attended a leadership film management camp at UCLA, I attended a northwestern university camp 2 years in a row one year studying business and the year after community leadership and service, I ran varsity track all 4 years, I am on the track leadership board, I did tech for the school plays, I am in community service club for 4 years and on the board of the club for 3, I did my schools after school program where we made a 90 minute film twice, I went on a mission trip my freshman year, I had a job 11th-12th grade, I was active in my church, I worked with foster children, I am apart of jack and Jill or America and the Sorelles club (both black student organizations that promote leadership and excellence), I did science fair, I attended film camps with New York Film Academy, I did a study abroad one summer in Greece, Italy, and France, I play piano, and I won many national and state level awards for films I wrote and directed. Oh, and I also won national scholar athlete award this year. Do I have a chance?
If you applied early decision you definitely have a decent shot. Your GPA is on the low side for Boston University, but if you give an explanation as to why it is so low they might not give it a lot of consideration and they’ll focus more on your amazing extracurriculars. I would reach out to your counselor and see if she can let the colleges you’re applying know about your situation. They will definitely understand.
Your chances would be better if you chose the CGS option.
