Hi, I was just wondering what people’s opinions were on my chances of getting into BYU? I find out pretty soon seeing as we’re supposed to find out by February 28th, but I’m kind of freaking out (just because I’m sort of impatient and tend to doubt myself). BYU is my top choice and I really want to get in.
-I have an unweighted GPA of 3.71.
-I got a composite score of 1230 on the SAT and an 1820 with the writing included.
-I’m Jewish, but I know the Honor Code well because I attended the youth ballroom dance camp for two years which required us to stay on campus and follow the honor code.
-I’m from Texas.
-I’m graduating from high school early, so I’m currently 16 but will turn 17 on the second day of school if I attend BYU.
-By the end of my high school career I will have taken seven AP classes but eight AP tests (since I am graduating early I took English Literature and Composition online instead of in school but want to take the AP test anyways).
-I am in the Junior State of America, which is a national, non-partisan, completely student-run, political club (I am the historian for my chapter and the Film Director for the state).
-I have played the violin for eight years and play with the top orchestra at my high school.
-I have played the harp for a year and a half and play with the top orchestra at my high school.
-I run varsity cross country.
-I play varsity water polo.
-I speak Spanish fluently (I have been in an immersion program for the past eleven years and the first five years we were not allowed to speak anything other than Spanish).
-I am in the National Spanish Honor Society.
-I am in the National Honor Society.
-I already took the BYU Spanish Placement Exam and scored a 595 (the chart provided at the end of the exam listed that anyone scoring above a 578 should start in Spanish 321).
-I would like to get my Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and then get my Master’s in Aerospace Engineering. Engineering is my backup career, I would like to become a professional ballroom dancer (which I know may sound unreasonable to some, but I’m going to follow my dreams).
-I am the co-president and co-founder of my school’s GSA.
-I was elected to be on my school orchestra’s Orchestra Council.
-I am the World Champion for Professional-Amateur International Standard Ballroom Dancing in my age category (16-50).
-I am seventh in the world for Professional-Amateur International Latin Ballroom Dancing in the same age category as previously mentioned.
-I am second in the world for Professional-Amateur International 10-Dance in the same age category as previously listed.
-If I get into BYU, I definitely plan on auditioning for the ballroom dance team.
-I volunteer for a Spanish-speaking pediatric rehabilitation center.
-I tutor elementary students who only speak Spanish.
-I qualified for Academic All-State.
-I was not raised very religious, but I want to get more involved in religion, no matter what that religion is.
Thank you!
