What are my chances of getting into cal poly slo?

Currently a junior in high school (Cumulative weighted GPA around 3.95, last semester it was a 4.17), 1300 sat score (but I can get it up to about a 1400 by the time I apply), varsity tennis, junior varsity lacrosse, NHS, and student council (senior year). I took mostly honors courses my freshman and sophomore years and I am currently taking AP Chemistry, AP English Language, AP Human Geography, and AP US history and I also took AP Micro and Macroeconomics my sophomore year. I will be taking Applied Calculus, AP Comparative Government, AP English Literature, General Physics, and Aerospace Engineering. Thanks guys!

Intended major?
SLO GPA uses 9-11th grades. Caps honors points at 8 semesters of UC approved Honors (if in-state) AP/IB or DE courses.
Use this calculator and include 9-11th grades for a-g classes only.

I think you have a good chance

These are the average GPAs and test scores by the way: https://admissions.calpoly.edu/prospective/profile.html.

@labradoodle5, you can’t say that. Cal Poly admits by individual major and the selectivity is all over the map. Without knowing more, that’s probably a no for hyper competitive majors like CS and ME and an easy yes for others. It’s all about the major.

True. OP, can you post what major you’re going to apply for?

Thanks for the feedback guys! I’m still undecided on what major I’m applying for but it will most likely be a STEM major. Also, does Cal Poly consider demonstrated interest, and how good/much merit aid do they award?

My OOS daughter was admitted with a 31 ACT and the highest GPA (4.2?). She also took 2 math classes in middle school so she was maxed out for her math classes. She was admitted into civil engineering. Honestly, I was surprised she got in due to her ACT. Civil engineering must not be a hot major now. She only received a $1000 scholarship (per year), and, no, they don’t consider demonstrated interest.

SLO like most Cal States give little to no merit aid. Majority of the FA given by SLO is need-based for in-state applicants.

My son had a 4.32 (algorithm caps at 4.2), 760/700 SAT, maxed rigor, maxed ECs with leadership, and a little boost from a non-major related job. He was awarded $2k/year, probably because he’s from OOS. Don’t count on merit money, and choose your major wisely if CP is your top choice. Some of the STEM majors are ULTRA competitive, but a few aren’t. Good luck!

Do you know which stem majors aren’t ultra competitive?

That really depends, there are an awful lot of stem majors. Here’s what we did- my daughter had an interest in mathematics and statistics, but wasn’t really sure which she wanted to study, both are in the same department. We looked at the common data set and found that math had an acceptance rate of about 30%, while statistics had an acceptance rate of about 50%… so she applied under statistics.
