I had a little bit of a rough patch in sophomore which really hurt my GPA. There were some personal issues that affected my schoolwork. I received a "D" in AP World History second semester of sophomore year. I'll be remediating the "D" next semester (I'm in my senior year). I decided to take my Junior year to focus on my grades and it paid off. I received a weighted 4.0 both semesters.
As of now my weighted GPA is a 3.4 which on the lower side compared to Chapman's weighted 3.7. I've visited the campus twice and have talked to admissions counselors multiple times. They say they like to see upward trends in their students grades, which is good because my grades did trend upwards after sophomore year. They also told me to notify them when I apply and email my admissions counselor to explain what happened sophomore year. I also did an interview with them back in September.
I have been involved in a numerous amount of extracurriculars: I've been a dancer for 15 years and I do a lot of volunteer work (my local children's museum and the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, for example). My SAT score is about a 1700 right now (I just retook it so I'm hoping for improvement).
So what exactly are my chances? Chapman is my number one choice. I really love the school. Also, if it matters, I'm applying as an education major.

Hi OP, what “exactly” are your chances? No one is going to know that until the admissions staff makes a decision. A lot of it has to do with your competition for those available slots in your major. Who else is applying as an education major at Chapman this fall, and how do you stack up against those students? No one knows. My S is currently a sophomore at Chapman. What I remember most was how tortuous the wait was, from the time he applied until he finally got that packet in the mail. Just apply…and then take your mind off of it for the next four months! Concentrate on having a great senior year and keeping your grades up.

I applied EA and didnt make the first decision “cut” and they requested my fall grades…
