What are my chances of getting into College Park, MD?

I’m currently a sophomore in high school. I did awful as a freshman and really messed up my GPA. This is what I got.

English 9-G/T- A
US History- Hon- B
Geometry- G/T- C
Biology-G/T- B
French 2- D
Foundations of Technology- A

My weighted GPA was a 3.34 while my unweighted was a 3.43.

As a sophomore, I take these classes

Computer Science Principles AP
Chemistry G-T
Government and Politics AP
English 10 G/T
Theatre Arts
French 3
Algebra 2 G/T

My top priority is getting into College Park but I’m afraid it won’t happen.
My PSAT score as a freshman was also pretty bad (in the 1000 range) and it hasn’t changed by much this year.
Are there any tips I can get? How does University of Maryland accept students? What exactly do they look at? How can I study for the SAT as a freshman other than Khan Academy?

I also participate a lot outside of school. I love to volunteer and have over 300 hours. I started the Key Club at my school and also participate in MUN and HOSA.

Anything would be helpful. THANK YOU

Hi Malaika, IMHO, if you maintain an upward trajectory in both GPA and SAT scores, you should be able to get in. I would take it easy on the volunteering and extra-curriculars as in the end, it mostly comes down to GPA and SAT scores. I read a quote somewhere once which said that your GPA and SAT scores open the door, and whether you step inside the door or not, depends on your extra curriculars, essay, recommendations etc. So, concentrate on those things, get some help with study - most schools have NHS which offer free tuition and often the teachers themselves offer help. So, good luck!
