Hello im new here but we go
UW GPA: 3.7
W GPA: 4.33
SAT:1330
AP Classes taken :12
Honors Classes Taken: 15-17 (dont really remember ive taken alot)
Extracurricular including Community Service: Marching Band- Woodwind Captain,Ambassadors- President, Peer Mentors- Secretary,Intern at a dentistry, Beta Club,Helped at local elementary school
On my common application profile i put that i have competed in many science fairs and received awards under the honors section, as well as that i am an AP Scholar. I also have two jobs, which i also put on the application.
i also go to a magnet school, idk if that makes a difference though.
i know that my sat and gpa are pretty low, but will the fact that i have taken alot of ap and honors classes make up for that?
thx in advance to who ever responds and if you need more info just let me know!
@iloveavocados
Ethnicity?
State of residence?
Family income?
I am an African American female, I live in GA, and my family income is above 100k, but its only from my mother who takes care of my sister and i, and puts my other sister through college ( i put this info on my fasfa)
but like barely above 100k
@iloveavocados: Any AP scores (saying AP Scholar is too course-grained) and what courses?
Any higher than regional or even state level science fairs?
AP Classes: AP Environmental Science(4), AP Gov, AP World History(3), AP Biology (4), AP Chem, AP Lang(3) , AP US History(3) , AP Physics (currently taking), AP Calc (currently taking), AP Lit (currently taking), AP econ (currently taking)
and for the science fairs they were at state level
also i see in the original messafe that i said 12 ap classes, its actually 11
AP Scholar only means you got a 3 or above on all AP exams… I wouldn’t think that would mean much to Emory… I would think an AP Scholar with Distinction or a National AP scholar would mean a lot more…
@iloveavocados
Your profile is good. Stats are decent/ avg for you demographic, however your AP scores are great. Your EC’s are lacking a bit, but class rigor and the fact you go to s Magnet a school helps, I would say Low Reach for Emory, Match/High Match for Oxford.
@nightstalker160 ye ik, hopefully ill get fours on the exams i take this year to put me as an AP Scholar with Distinction again, @VANDEMORY1342 thanks for the feedback!
@iloveavocados and @nightstalker160 : Yeah, I think those distinctions hold more weight when earned for courses that the school has an equivalent for. So biology and environmental somewhat help, but not the others. Unfortunately, the other scores will not come until after a decision if a senior, but I would say you’re pretty good. Don’t know your chances of admission, but they can’t be lower than an average applicant. There are people who are not your demographic who get in sometimes and not necessarily with the state science fair participation level academically oriented ECs. It is certainly possible.
Ok, thanks for the feeeback! @bernie12
