Hello! I am planning on transferring from Mercy College to Fordham University for Spring of next year. This spring was my first semester and I got A's in all the classes I took, so I now have a 4.0 GPA. The head of the English Department at my school read some of my work (after two English Professor's told her about me) and upon her recommendation and insistence, I will be in English Honors next fall, (English is my Major by the way). My HS transcript and SAT scores are not great at all, which I am afraid will hurt my chances of being accepted into Fordham. You see, for three years in hell...I mean High School, I was severely depressed and I think it's pretty apparent on my transcript because I started off brilliantly and then suddenly my grades just plummet. Add being bullied by at least eight typical HS girls, and you can imagine what I felt like.
Anyway, I've always been a writer and in High School it was always that class I excelled the most because it was almost like an "out" for me at the time, so it was intensely comforting. This summer I will be joining a three week writing program at Columbia and I have done a lot of other EC's both in HS and College. I work super hard so I am pretty sure that next semester I will to do as well as I managed to do this semester. I believe I will have 28 credits by the end of this year.

What do you guys think? Any chance in hell? Lol. I mean, with an "average" HS transcript and SAT? I'm not sure how heavily Fordham will weigh the two.

When you have less than 60 college credits, Fordham will look at your high school grades and SAT scores. Over 60 credits, they will look at your college work. I would still apply for Spring 2015 and see what happens. Let us know the results. If they don’t accept you for Spring 2015, you can still reapply when you have 60 credits.

The good news is that you now have an excellent GPA and you are an English major and not a Gabelli applicant… Since you are going to Mercy, you can apply as a commuter which will increase your chance of acceptance since you won’t be requesting a dorm room.

Good luck!

So, pretty much my college work won’t weigh as heavily as my High School grades and SAT score? I was hoping they would see my progression and take it into consideration. Since you said commuting and being an English Major can increase the probability of my acceptance, what do you think about strong EC’s and recommendations? Sorry for all the questions! I’m just hoping to strengthen my application.

Thank you for your response btw!

No, I think your college work and high school work will both be looked at. The fact that you have done so well in college is a definite advantage. Strong EC’s and recommendations are also a plus. I think you have a good chance but you never know with Fordham. Commuting is also an advantage and the English major is also good. You have many pluses. Send a strong application in by September so that you are one of the first applications they receive. I wouldn’t talk about your “3 years of hell” but talk about your personal growth since high school.

Let us know if you get in for Spring.

Haha. I would never write an essay about those years. You’ve been so helpful. I’ll definitely come back and let you know my results!
Thank you!

I am looking to transfer to fordham as well, did you end up getting accepted?
