What are my chances of getting into Fordham

Hey I applied for the philosophy undergraduate.
I’m unsure of my high school GPA since I moved in Sophomore year.
My freshman&sophomore GPA is 2.9 (no classes with weight were offered)
Junior Year I got a lot more serious and I had a 3.3 UW and a 3.6W that year
My accelerated courses junior year were Chemistry Honors and IB English SL
Senior year my GPA during the first trimester is 3.65 UW and 4.2W
My courses this year are Honors Scientific Research (an honors class made by my school with an AP credit), IB Environmental Systems and Societies, IB English, Honors Comparative government, Pre-Calculus, and Physics (I’m taking 3 sciences by choice)
My SAT scores are 1610 CR:580 Math:550 Writing:480 I’m taking it again and this time I’m actually studying so should increase a lot. Also I believe Indiana only looks at Math and CR so that should help.
My estimated UW highschool GPA is: 3.2 and weighted is 3.4
I know these stats seem week but I increased drastically between sophomore/junior year and junior/senior year which I’ve heard is good.
Also my weighted cumulative GPA at this school is 3.75 since it only accounts for my junior and senior grades so my class rank will also be decently high.
What are my chances of getting in??

Hi… I hate to say that, but I think your SAT will kill your chances… there is another SAT test on the 23rd. I would suggest you to really study for it and try to get at least 620 on each part. Focus on your writing part. I don’t know what is “I believe Indiana only looks at Math and CR so that should help.” Fordham looks at all three parts. 3.75 W GPA would be a little bit low, see if you can boost it to 3.9. Normal other applicants have 4.0 or above since it is weighted. Fordham will look at your grades from all four years. It is a stretch, but you may have really great EC’s so it’s hard to say… but anyway… good luck!

I think you’ve got a solid chance, as you almost fit the profile for their typical accepted applicant. I was accepted under early action with slightly higher scores than yours, and I mean slightly. We both show a positive trend in grades, played a lot of sports, and have gotten similar awards. I think you should really focus on having a great essay, and your chances will be strong. Show admissions how badly you want to get into Fordham, and do your best to convey your passions to them. Good luck; you’ve got this.

Your academic stats are low for Fordham but I wish you good luck. http://www.fordham.edu/info/23829/test_scores

Your scores are low but the fact that you applied for the Philosophy major may get you in.

Your SAT score is low. Too bad you didn’t take the ACT, that might have been a better choice for you. One thing though with Philosophy, lots of papers to write. My daughter has friends who are Philosophy majors and lots of heavy reading and papers. Is English your first language?

Yeah English is my first language - I’m taking the SAT again tomorrow I will release those scores when they’re out

Good luck with it! Too bad you didn’t take the ACT----we found that to be a better test. It’s more of “what you know” than “reasoning” like the SAT. My daughter’s CR and MA scores were very similar, she applied as a Communications/Media Arts major and was accepted as that. But you don’t actually “declare” a major until sophomore year. She’s a Psych major. Get a good night’s sleep and just take it easy.

Good luck.

I’m not sure what anyone else can tell you until your get your updated SAT results. At this point your SATs are very low for Fordham.

Updated - SAT Score: 1660 CR:580 M: 550 W:530

@nigeriamanila I hate to say that, but it is still low for Fordham… where else did you apply to?

your SAT scores are a bit low, but I think you still have slight chance. Good luck im rooting for you

@Fiona1997 @BOBROSS thank you! I was accepted to Indiana U and Purdue anyway so Fordham is just another option anyway.

@nigeriamanila On another post you say you are interested in a “Big Campus” and “Parties (Greek Life)” so while Fordham would be excellent for English/Philosophy it wouldn’t be a fit for your other criteria. Congratulations on your acceptances.
