what are my chances of getting into georgetown?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently a junior in high school in PA and thinking of applying to Georgetown University.

I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and a 4.8 weighted GPA. I got a 1520 on my SATs- 800 in math and 720 in reading.

So far, I have taken one subject test- Math 2 and I got an 800 on it. I’m planning on taking US History and Physics in August.

I have taken 7 APs in high school so far (AP Computer Science 1, AP European History, AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1, AP English Lang, AP Calc AB, APUSH) and will be taking 5 next year. I’ve gotten all A’s through high school and am ranked in the top 5% of my class.

Georgetown will be my first choice (early action) for college applications in the fall. I know SFS is very competitive, so I was thinking more along the lines of Georgetown College so that I can take classes in both the sciences and the arts.

For extracurricular activities, I am a state-level violinist, am in multiple orchestras (concertmistress of one of them), am the captain of my debate team at school, president of the Women in Engineering club, and an editor in my school’s literary magazine. I also work a part-time job and will be part of a local political internship this summer.

For supplement, I will be sending a portfolio of my violin playing.

I have received many prestigious violin awards and scholarships, AMC math competition awards, national merit finalist, and state level debate awards.

I’d like to know my chances of getting into Georgetown for early action this coming fall (applying for the Fall 2019 season).

Thank you!

You’re definitely a very competitive applicant and all of your scores are in the right range. With a school as selective as Georgetown, you never know what’s going to happen. They receive so many applications from students with high stats. To make yourself stand out, write great essays and show interest. These two things are very important, especially the essays! Work hard on them! Good luck.

Do you think writing about my orchestra/violin playing (which is something I’m passionate about and have been doing for a while) is a good idea? Or should I be writing about things more political oriented, such as debate or my internship? Since I want to do political studies at Georgetown, would writing about those things be a better idea?

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are good. Write great essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools

You don’t need to write about things politically oriented. Georgetown loves well rounded students. If they can see you are incredibly passionate about your orchestra/violin playing and you write a compelling essay, this will work great. Good luck!
