I am currently a Junior and am looking to apply to NYU in about a year, I go to a big private school that is very hard that NYU has taken students from and knows the difficulty. My GPA is an 84 and I am in AP classes and very involved with EC's as I am a founder of a club (members of others), I am class president, I am very involved in volunteer work at some daycares around the Nashville, TN area. I have not taken actual ACT or SAT just practices ones and on my PSAT i got a 1600 and on the Plan (practice ACT) I got a 28. I also and MOST importantly am looking to get recruited to play soccer there. I understand my GPA is not great but what are NYU's admissions like? What are my Chances?

As of now, it’s a reach.
Your GPA is low - NYU is a tough school
Your ACT is much better than your SAT, so focus on the ACT; a 28 is probably not going to be good enough

I don’t really know how sports recruiting works, but as of now, that’s your best shot. But you still have time!

how relevant is the fact I go to one of the top private schools in the state an country and how relevant are my EC’s

Going to a top private school is very relevant - it definitely helps…
And you didn’t elaborate very well on your EC’s, but I’m sure they’re great…

But that doesn’t exempt you from the other factors…I’m not trying to be mean here, just honest…
Your GPA is an 84. I go to an average public school, and the accepted average to NYU is about a 96.
Is it really worth the 12 point difference? And if you believe it is, what about your standardized test scores? If you go to an amazing private school where your education is far superior to all others, it’s surely not showing in your test scores. The average ACT from my school to get into NYU is a 30…but that is actually on the low end. I believe the quartiles are 29-32, meaning your 28 places you at less than the 25th percentile.

You are the founder of a club, class president, and do volunteer work.
I’m sorry to tell you that this is not spectacular; it is above average at best - certainly not enough to put you over the top…

Again, I’m not trying to be mean, I just want you to know the truth

thats fine im just looking at their soccer program and wondering how prestigious there academics were, as far a standardized testing goes im a junior and havnt taken the ACT or SAT yet but will in a few months, and my school again probably because it is a top private school had 5 people accepted to NYU two of which had a 85 GPA and a few EC’s so hopefully what I have (which i didnt specify and didnt name half) along with being a potential student athlete will help. Thank you for the insight I will use it as fuel to drive me over the next few years

and 96 GPA! wow lol I wish our school was as easy as yours or you guys are crazy intelligent
