Please be honest! I am currently a Asian female senior in a Texas high school, rank 7 out of 612 students. My unweighted GPA is a 3.8 and my weighted GPA is a 104.1111. I have been in 8 clubs in high school, 5 of which are honor societies and I am an officer in HOSA. I participate in community service mainly centered around medicine and tutoring and have been volunteering in a state representative's office. I have taken 11 AP classes. My ACT score is a 32, and my SAT superscored is a 2120.

I hope I didn't leave anything out! My writing skills are decent, not amazing unfortunately.

Also if anyone has any tips on writing essays or answering the short answers or anything at all that might help me please please please let me know! Everything is appreciated. :) Thank you in advance!

I would say that you have a low chance (sorry), but you will be competing against kids who have won national recognition, started their own business, perfect test scores and GPA, valedictorians, etc.

I hope you have have some safeties in mind. The University of Texas, from what I hear is pretty good.

Either way, I would really focus your essays on:
Something that matters to (you can’t fake passion)
Something that is unique (think: Will anyone else write about this?)

No… I don’t think you’re going to make it. At any other medicine school, you might have a chance but your extracurricular doesn’t stand out from other Asian applicants. If you were black, I would say its a solid high match but just blame your fellow asian peers who are too smart for their own good. (I’m asian too btw)

@unitize lol what are you saying. She is applying to undergrad where are you getting med school from. For OP, your chances are pretty low. Stanford is the hardest school to get into and you really have to be one of the best at something to be even considered.

@tooty44 Thank you for replying! I have actually gotten accepted into UT Austin so at least I have that haha @unitize Thanks for replying! Being Asian has its ups and downs siiiiiiiiigh @ooohcollege Thanks for replying! I should’ve studied harder sigh…

Stanford is probably lowest admit rate of any school but the students who get in are not uniformly 4.0 gpa and 2400 sat. D was rejected last week REA with a 36 ACT and 2070 SAT and similar GPA and APs to you. What makes you unique and what are you passionate about? There are loads of students with high scores applying. The ones who get admitted are unique in some fashion or intense in academics with internships and some college classes already in many casses

Because you’re applying to Stanford, your chances aren’t great to begin with.

Stanford was the only school I was rejected from–I got into lots of other elite ones (including a similar school in Cambridge that I now attend) with the same qualifications and different essays. Your ECs aren’t spectacular, so you’ll need to make yourself stand out with a stellar essay. That said, it wouldn’t be impossible for you to get in.

For your essay, spend as much time as you can on it, I started mine at the end of August, finished writing it in the end of October, and edited it until Nov. 10 (6 times with the speech writer for Senator Reid). You need a good and qualified editor, and write about something that is deeply personal. That’s what I did. And I got compliments on my essay from most of the colleges I applied to (they wrote notes about on the admission letters). So in essence, EDIT, and try your best to remember the rules of grammar. If possible, relate each paragraph back to what you state in your introduction. Remember to capitalize correctly, the “Me vs. I” rule, listing rules, and comparison rules. Grammar will show your grasp on the english language and your capability to succeed in your college writing.

Hi, I was accepted into Stanford REA. I believe your SAT/ACT scores are not up to par w/ most Stanford applicants, so if I were you, I’d retake one or the other. @MaddyDUMW pretty much covered a lot about the essays. Try to make them unique, can’t stress that enough…

@mnm111 No, both my parents graduated overseas. @MaddyDUMW I see! Thank you so much for the help. @Dream0n First of all, congratulations!!! Unfortunately the deadline for retaking the SAT/ACT are long passed for me I will see what I can do with the scores I got, thank you!
