These are my three top schools I want to get into. My high school GPA is 2.7 and ACT 20, but my situation is different. Im going to an early college program for my junior and senior year (I’m currently a senior in highschool). For those of you who don’t know, an early college program is when you leave high school and go to community college I go to Portland Community College in Oregon and my GPA with 45 credits is 3.1 I still have a whole year before graduating highschool and I will have my Associates of Arts Transfer Degree. Should I be a transfer student or a new incoming freshman? And what are my chances of getting into these schools? If my chances are not high what other schools can I go to that are in california and Washington that I have a good chance of getting into
P.S I also have a realy good extracurricular résumé that has a lot of volunteering and student government activities
- As an OOS applicant, you need a minimum UC GPA of 3.4 to apply to UCSB/UCLA and they only use 10-11th grades for admissions. http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Average UC GPA for UCSB was 4.03 and UCLA was a 4.17.
Even if you make the minimum UC GPA, your ACT is very low. Average ACT of UCSB was 29 and UCLA was 30. You would have a difficult chance of getting into any UC’s with your current Stats.
-
As an OOS applicant, you will receive little to no financial aid so expect to pay full price at the UC’s $55K/year and $36K/year for CSULA.
-
CSULA is an OK Cal state and you probably could get an acceptance based on your current stats, but definitely not worth the costs.
-
Right now, unless you can increase your GPA and ACT, you would should look to your in-state options.
-
If you can pay the high price tag for California schools, look at University of Redlands, Whittier College, Concordia as a few possible privates.
BTW, you would be considered a Freshman.
How did you pick these schools? Have you done any research on their requirements?
Use the link below to see average ACT/GPA for these schools:

I think it’s noteworthy to mention that your ACT score would lend you to struggle in our classes at any of our UCs or Cal States.
Our UC schools are on the quarter system (except UCB) or 10 short weeks to prove your grasp of the courses.
Focus on your studies within your state and work to increase your GPA for graduation. $55k per year, for OOS tuition, is a very expensive trip down south.
It is hard to say how they’d calculate your GPA with so many CC classes but, direct admission into a UC with an ACT of 20 is highly unlikely. CSULA - does participate in WUE but, I don’t think you’d meet the admission threshold for OOS applicants.
Oregon has several good schools you’ll probably qualify for - Portland State, Southern Oregon included.
Why not go there?
