UCSB is the school I want to get into the most. What are my chances?
I’m currently a junior and I live about 2 hours south of Santa Barbara (in state)
Last year I got a 3 on my AP Euro exam
This year I’m taking 2 AP classes
Next year I’ll be taking 4 AP and 1 IB
My current weighted GPA is like a 3.5 junior year
Haven’t taken SAT or ACT
I want to major in microbiology
Also, is there anything I should do to improve my application?
What are my chances?
No way to chance you until end of Junior year since you need to complete your Junior year to determine your UC GPA and no test scores.
- Work on getting all A’s this year as a Junior since the average UC capped weighted GPA for UCSB Freshman admits was a 4.13.
Here is the UC GPA calculator since your weighted HS GPA most likely is not calculated the same as the UC GPA. UC’s only use 10-11th grades and you get extra points for UC approved Honors, AP/IB and DE courses taken 10-11th grades. AP scores are not used in UC admission decisions and are used to receive college credit.

On this link, you can look up your HS’s UC approved Honors courses: https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist#/list/search/institution
25th-75th percentile for test scores 2018 admits:
ACT: 28-34
SAT: 1270-1500
Aim for at or above the averages so if you have not taken the PSAT, consider doing some test prep.
What are your EC’s? Show consistency and passion plus look for community service and leadership positions.
Best of luck and repost when you have all your stats including the Capped Weighted UC GPA.
