How hard is it to get in to UCSB for an in state bio major
Biology is in the College of Letters and Sciences which does not admit by major.
These are the averages for last year’s Freshman class so compare your stats to the averages. Aim for at least the average or above for the best chances. Also your personal insight essays, EC’s and HS course rigor along with UC Capped weighted GPA and test scores will all be considered during the application review.
2018 UC capped weighted GPA averages: UCSB: 4.13
SAT: 1385
ACT: 31
Admit rate — Overall :32.3%
Admits: 29,782
Applicants: 92,305
California Residents (% of admits): 66.2%
when you asked this question a few days ago you posted “My current weighted GPA is like a 3.5 junior year”
Assuming you understand how UC calculates gpa (it only uses 10th and 11th grade) then you have a 10th grade gpa of 3.5 so if you got all A’s this year it would rise to perhaps 3.75 However the frosh profile at UCSB says the 25th-75th percentile gpa for admits was 4.00 - 4.26 so this makes your weighted gpa on the very low side of admits.
If UCSB is your dream school you may want to explore backup plans such as attending SBCC for 2 years and then transferring to UCSB. Now wouldn’t be too early to start having conversations with your parents about this. Many SBCC students live right off campus by UCSB in Isla Vista and get pretty much the full experience. After a semester at SBCC they can even take 1 class a quarter at UCSB. I have written more about this at http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-santa-barbara/1975735-backdoor-way-into-ucsb.html
