Hi everyone, so i was wondering, what are my chances of getting in to UF? Since junior year ends next week, I want to start planning to apply to different schools in state. Therefore, I just want to know what my chances for getting in are, especially since they run a little bit below what UF's acceptance stats are.

GPA: 3.4 unweighted, 5.0 weighted
Class record: Mostly A's and B's in my classes. I have taken at least one course during the summer, currently taking 2 in FLVS.
AP: 4 for Art History, 3 for Human Geography. Awaiting English Language results.
Dual Enrollment: 39+ credits, expecting an AA by the end of Senior Year
SAT: 1550: 610 CR, 550W, 440M (took the SAT again today, waiting for those results too)
Community Service: 50 Hours (expected a total of 150 by the end of summer)
Member of the National Honor Society.
No leadership or athletic references.
Low income, hispanic, first one in my family to go to college.
Expected Major: Art History

What are my chances of getting into UF? Also, what are my chances that I can get in with decent financial aid? I'm hoping that by taking the two online classes that I can raise my GPA to a 3.5.

your strength of schedule is definitely your strong point. if you get your SAT t0 1800, i think you’d have a good shot. the fact that you’ll have you’re AA should be significant too.

I got a 1520 on my sat and I got in so don’t worry. But I got a 28 on the act so they probably looked at that score more

Okay thank you two, it’s helped me a lot.

@Skluffy101, what did you do to study for the ACT? I can’t find much, even on this website in regard to study guides or methods of studying.

I don’t want to say I didn’t study much but I didn’t study as much as a lot of people are doing on CC (probably would have had much better score ). The SAT was just such a hard test for me, for some reason how it was written just confused the heck out of me. When I took the ACT it was just significantly easier to me.

However I brought a study review book (Princeton review) and I sectioned off material until the test. I wasn’t very good at focusing hard on this because I was also studying for four other AP tests, so I maybe could have done better, but I really liked the Princeton review. It talked a lot about how to beat the test, not the material.

@Skluffy101 It seems like we went through the same thing. I made a 1530 on the SAT and I bought the Princeton Review book (Crack the ACT 2011) and I scored a 26. I didn’t study at all for the SAT because I didn’t know the importance of the test when I took it. Also, I got in for Fall at UF with my stats; therefore, I think @paralaesperanza has a great shot.

Curious what is your gpa scale based on? Also the 440 on math sat dosnt look that great on an application.

440 in Math does not meet minimum requirements. Get the math up or try the ACT. If you get your AA you can be considered as a transfer. That may be your best bet.

Well academically, you’re doing pretty well! Just don’t slack off senior year because they really look at your schedule to make sure you’re suffering from senioritis. Keep building up your community service and your grades. Maybe join a club or two senior year other then NHS, too?

The only thing that I see that is holding you down is your SAT scores. If your new scores don’t meet the UF standards then you should take them again. Try to at least break 1150 (with reading and math combined). Also, try taking the ACT if you’re having trouble with the SAT.
