What are my chances of getting into UNC?

I’m currently in the process of applying to colleges, but I thought posting this would help reel me back into reality and approach my essays from a practical perspective.

  • SAT: 1360 (superscored)
  • ACT: 30 (superscored)
  • Class Rank: 12 out of 365 (?)
  • GPA unweighted: 4.0
  • GPA weighted: 4.42
  • I have taken 4 APs so far, those being: AP Euro (3), APUSH (5), AP Lang (4), AP Psych (4)
  • I am currently taking 4 more APs my senior year (AP Lit, AP Human Geo, AP Calc AB, and AP Bio)
  • extracurriculars: Tri-M (9th), Marching Band (9th), Art Club (9th), ACE (9th, 10th, 11th), Key Club (11th, 12th) - currently have 25 service hours from last year, NHS (12th)
  • outside of school, I tutor 2 kids (since 9th grade) and take piano lessons (since 8th grade)
  • a first-generation student (Asian)
  • my teacher recs will be pretty good because they're from teachers I know quite well and have received excellent grades in their classes (and both are alumnis from Chapel Hill as well); my APUSH teacher is doing one of them and he also grades for the college board, and he said that he enjoyed reading my leqs so maybe that will help? idk
  • overall, I'm not the best student, but I would still like some feedback

I also heard that the county you live in impacts your chances of getting in?? I’m from Mecklenburg so I’m not sure if that’s going to do me any favors

Just look at the common data set and compare your stats to the averages

My stats are very similar - top 5-6% of class, 1450 SAT, 4.5 gpa, etc and most people said that I gave a good shot at getting accepted. I do believe that living in Mecklenburg might put you at a slight disadvantage, but I’m not very sure to what extent. Best of luck to you.

Your stats look very similar to my daughter who is now a freshman at UNC. Asian female with a 30 superscore ACT and about top 7% in her class with an unweighted of 3.9 and a weighted of 4.78( on a 6 point scale ). She took 5 AP classes Bio, Env Sci, Human Geography, Stats, and Psych We live in Wake county. I would say that academically you look very solid but your ECs are a bit light compared to average. Overall I think that with strong essays you should have a better than 50% chance of getting in. Good luck!

thank you to everyone that replied! i got into unc!!! i’m very excited to attend this fall
