I'm currently a high school senior living in Virginia. I'm applying as undecided, which I've heard increases my chances of getting in.

I currently have a 3.55 UW GPA and a 3.79 W GPA. I got a 4.62 in my first semester. If I maintain this, I should be able to bring my weighted GPA up to just being shy of a 3.90.

Location: Prince William County
SAT Score: 1740
550 Math
550 Writing
640 Critical Reading

I've taken a total of 8 AP and 5 honors classes (I'm taking five presently) and 3 years of Spanish. My weighted gpa is a relatively low since they don't offer AP classes to freshman in my school, and only one AP class during sophomore year.

My extracurriculars are pretty bad but I'll post anyway:
-2 years of indoor and outdoor track and field
-1 week of summer lacrosse camp
-Worked as a file organizer for my father's company during the summer.

Pretty good personal statement in my opinion

Hmm…hard to gauge this one. I’d say Virginia Tech is a high match. Penn State, assuming you’re attempting to get into the main campus straightaway, is a low reach. Definitely bump your SAT score if it’s not too late.

Thank you for the update - it"s very important for current juniors to see actual results and once chanced many students never check back in. So, thanks on behalf of all the CC readers :)

Have you received your financial aid package and is the school affordable?

I haven’t received my fin.aid package as of yet. Penn state is pretty expensive, especially for the OOS student, which is what I am. According to collegedata.com the rates are:

In all honesty, Penn State isn’t my first choice, due to price alone, and as a result, my first choice is an in-state school. Nevertheless, Penn State is a great school.

V Tech would definitely trump Penn State, if only for cost, so I hope you’ll get in!
You’re right, Penn State is very expensive, especially OOS - COA is $45,000 and typically you only get $5,500 in loans, so go ask your parents if they have $39,000 X4 in a college fund for you. IF not, rejoice you got in, consider that it’s no longer on the table, and look at your other choices.
Where else have you applied (beside VTech and PSU)?

Excellent. And VCU is sure to be affordable. So essentially you’re waiting to hear from your top choice while having favorable decision already in the bag that’s a comfortable position to be in. Congratulations, well-done.
