Hi from Tajikistan!!!
I’m a student of 10th grade (10 out of 11, we study 11 grades only in my country) and I applied to Exeter and Andover having such application profile:
Languages – Tajik (native language), Russian (school language), a little bit English.
Transcript – 5 out of 5 all the subjects.
Recommendation Letters – Strong one from counselor, another one from math teacher in Russian and translated to English.
Essays – I’m not sure if they are strong or not by I suppose that they are.
I haven’t passed SAT yet. I’m planning to take it in the beginning of June.
TOEFL score will be released at the end of February which I can send it to these schools.
Honors:
Bronze medal IMSO 2015 (International Mathematics and Science Olympiad)
Silver medal IMAS 2016
Gold medal (AMITY International Olympiad for Science and Mathematics 2017)
Certificate of Merit (AMITY International Olympiad for Science and Mathematics 2017)
Certificate of Excellence IMC 2017 (International Mathematics Competition)
Certificate of Merit award IMC 2016

Certificate of Graduation CPC (College Preparation Club 2018-2019)
SAT Math II – 800 and SAT Physics - 690
And 20 more certificates in different subjects from Olympiads.
Extracurricular Activity:
I have my own math Olympiad for 5,6 and 7th grade. During last 3 years I have held the Olympiad in the small town. Approximately participated 500, 600, 615 pupils from different schools.
I taught 42 hours Math of Olympiad level in English young students in my school when I was in 7th grade.
I attended College Prep – Club in American Counsels. During attendance I did several kinds of volunteering services.
Now I’m English teacher’s assistant in my school.
Thanks in advance!!!
If there is anyone from Russian speaking countries who attended these schools please respond me. I would like to talk.
For real though, you have a really strong hook. But, your ECs are all related to math. Those schools would like to see a wider variety for ECs (such as sports, arts, community service…)
Thank you very much for your replies!!! I can’t do sports as I got a Osgood-Schlatter disease. It’s recent problem of teenagers when you get problems ith your knees. It is lasting more than 7 years. But before I was really good at Judo.
Not to be harsh, but I don’t think you have much of a chance at all. First of all, Exeter and Andover don’t accept SAT subject scores. For 12th grade, the only standardized test scores they accept are PSAT, SAT 1, or ACT. Decisions are released in less than a month, so taking the SAT in June is completely irrelevant. Also, financial aid is generally reserved for US Citizens only, so this will severely decrease your chances. Your English also does not seem to be stellar, which is a red flag to admissions committees. Finally, 12th grade is probably the hardest grade to get into, and when they accept people, it is generally as recruited athletes. Use the search tool to look up old threads on 12th grade admission, you will find more information there.
I expect of getting full scholarship as an avarage sallary per month is 150 dollars in my country. My father earns 5000 dollars per year and moreover me and 2 my little brothers study in the best school of my country and the costs per year are 1080 dollars for each of us. The rest amount of money is spent on food and clothes and some other expanses.
@ThomasBr@dilovar I hate to say it, but I agree with ThomasBr, not to mention that Exeter and Andover both have a cut off for the TOEFL which I believe is 100, keep in mind that they will literally not consider your application if your score is below that. Furthermore, since your score will not be available until end of February there is a good/ almost certain chance that these schools have already finalized their decisions. This means they will literally not even look at your application EVEN IF YOU SCORE A 100 ON THE TOEFL. Ultimately, I hate to sand so harsh, but I believe your chances are EXTREMELY low. If you are set on going to boarding school I suggest you find a school with an English Second Language Program and also a school that has a higher acceptance rate and later application deadlines.
Sorry, I read your post too quickly and I didn’t catch everything. I agree with what @CC4life and @ThomasBr said. The schools accept barely any applicants for 12th grade. I’m not even sure if they allow people to apply for 12th, maybe just athletes. Taking the SAT in JUNE will be no use because, well obviously, the decisions come out in March. The schools have probably already made their decisions by Feb 16, and not counting the fact that it takes a few weeks for the results to come out. I don’t think you should apply. You are simply wasting your time because you have veryyy low chances of getting in because your application just isn’t complete. I have heard that there is a program called United World Colleges that’s like a high school that you could apply to if you really want to study in the U.S.
No it’s not. That said, needing FA and being international will seriously lower your chances. Anyone applying for 12th grade who is not a recruited athlete doing a PG year has limited chance for admission.
Not only are your chances EXTREMELY good - and yes you are likely to get FA - and YES these schools CAN accept you for 12th grade and post graduate year if they want - we’ve had lots of international students come for that, but most have been wealthy - I should know, I went there - apply if you like and don’t be discouraged by other posters who probably don’t want you to apply for their own private reasons. However, that said, I suggest you save your applications for COLLEGE where not only will you be eligible for plenty of FA, but also will be judged on your merit - eg. MIT. US boarding schools are not truly of the caliber Hollywood claims (sex drugs booze is the predominant culture, always has been).
@nobord This is a chance me thread. He asked to be chanced, so I and other posters chanced him based on our opinion. Why would we not want him to apply? First of all, he is not competing in the same pool as us. His 12th-grade application does not affect my 11th grade or anyone else’s 10th or 9th-grade application. Also, the application deadline has already passed, so there would be no point in discouraging him from applying because his application is already in. I also see this is your first post on this site, so I assume you are fairly new. If you look through the thousands of threads and users that have been posted on this forum in the 10+ years it has existed, no one has gotten into Andover or Exeter into 12th grade without being a recruited athlete. You will also find that people have said the same thing I and others on this thread have said to @dilovar to many other 12th grade applicants in previous years. I am not trying to discourage dilovar from applying, I am giving him my honest opinion based on anecdotal data.
@nobord I believe it is completely unfair for you to assume why we are telling him not to apply. It is not based off of our own goals and ambitions, but rather due to the fact that he is simply applying TOO LATE. Andover, and all the other major boarding schools have TOEFL cut offs and if they don’t have his TOEFL till the end of February they cannot make a decision on his application. Not to mention, Andover’s selectivity, but having a completed application when they are at the end of the feb means they are probably done with making decisions.
