I live in Long Island, New York and not many New Yorkers apply to Rice which may give my daughter an advantage..she wants to apply early as well..here is her profile..please help!

Extras: President of Medical Explorers
Independent Research-won many awards, participating in INTEL in the fall
also head of research (a mentor)
Student Rep on the Board of Ed.

Tri-M
Peer Drugs
Student Orientation Committee
Foreign Language Club
Avid member of synagogue

can someone please give me their opinion..

Which "peer drugs" is she involved with? Has she been caught by the school or by the police? And does she sell or only use?

I think that she has a decent shot at Rice, though her ACT hinders her. Is it possible for her to retake it?
Also, participating in INTEL means nothing to colleges. Placing, however, is tremendous.

Well if she's involved in peer drugs, she probably knows supply and demand well. i'd apply to the business school. LOL

on a serous note: rice is going to want a higher act score (32 and up) or a solid SAT score. early admit improves her chances though.
But rice also looks at how well rounded the person is. they like UNIQUE extra curriculars

Peer Drugs is probably just the name of some anti drug club lol.

I agree with the previous posters. She needs to improve her test scores. Maybe she could try the SAT? I think the rest is fine.

she has a good shot. i would recommend a 30 or 31 act. Also encourage her to take as many ap's as she can. The more the better. once she has these stats i would think she is in! Good Luck!

Very marginal for Rice.
