What are my chances of transfering to a top 25?

All throughout highschool I pretty much just skated by, I had like a 2.1 gpa and an 1150 (out of 1600) SAT

I am going to a state school right now, and have turned over a brand new leaf I plan to transfer after this year. The schools I have been looking at are, Duke, Vanderbilt, Tufts, Hopkins, Tulane, Norte Dame, Georgetown, and possibly michigan . I assuming I get a 3.7 or above What would you say my chances are? How badly would my poor SATs and Highschool transcript hurt me? What would you say my chances for each are?

My Top 2 choices are Duke and Vanderbilt

Well, Hopkins doesn't require you to send in SAT scores if you're a transfer student. That said, I was rejected and I had a 4.0 in college with a 2.7 in high school. I mean, a lot of it is luck. MANY people on here will come and tell you to not even bother, but I firmly believe that if you have something that sets YOU apart, then go for it. And prove to them that you'll make an excellent candidate. I wanted Georgetown, but I decided not to even bother becasue their requirments are RUTHLESS. As far as the other schools go I'm not sure because I never really had an interest in any of them besides Georgetown and Hopkins.

What's you major?

My major is Biology, and im premed, which is also one of the reasons that I want to go to a top 25 school, because having a high gpa at a top school will be imensely beneficial in applying to med school over having a high gpa from state school.

What do you mean when you say Georgetown is ruthless? From what I have heard they are one of the easier top 25s to transfer into, still very difficult, but easyier.

I also believe that having a very low highschool gpa might be benefical over a mid range highschool gpa, cause the the improvement will have been greater from college to highscool showing them that I have made an enormus change since highschool.

Tulane isn't a top 25 I don't believe, but does anyone have any stats on them, its my 3rd choice but they don't report transfer stats for some reason.

You getting rejected with a 4.0 really scares me though.......

Well, there's more to it than that. See, I'm a pre-law guy, so I know that a high GPA from a good school can do wonders if you're going grad. Hopkins is a GREAT pre-med university, so make sure you have some killer grades. That said, you may want to check out some safetys as well. I had no other choice but to pick a lot of state colleges. Though I don't want to, becasue University of MD is basically ran by retarded, generic frat boys, and that's something I can't handle. I want to study in a place with intellectuals.

Yes, I did get a 4.0, but with only 9 credits. And my stupid advisor practaclly MADE me apply. I told him that it wasn't enough, but he assured me it wouldn't matter becasue by the end of the semester I'd have enough. Well, at the time they made their picks, the midyear reports had not been released. So, yea...

I mean, I REALLY wanted Georgetown because I'm an International Affairs major. who knows though, like I said, Georgetown is a lot like NYU and Boston College. It may not be in the top 20, but it's pretty hard to get into.

Like I said before, go for it. Honeslty, you have nothing to lose and almost everything to gain! But make sure you have something that stands out. For me, the fact that I'm Middle-Eastern, and grew up in near poverty (not to mention the big disability I have) may just help.

What do you mean by the end of the semester they had made there picks?

Wouldnt it be pointless to apply before the first semester? seeing as you wouldnt hav any grades yet? and wouldnt it also be pointless to apply after semester two hoping to get in for the beginging of ur sophmore year, seeing as the deadlines for application to most of the schools is in mid march and the deadlines would already hav passed?

Yup, you're right. I applied as a sophmore transfer. Basically, he figured that though I didn't have enough credits, by the time my second semester grades came out it wouldn't be too late to send them in...well it turns out that it was.

Who knows. I mean, I'll apply again, either way. It's my dream school, and has been since I was 7 years old when my uncle graduated from there.

I had a horrid HS GPA, due to being a slacker, but pretty good SAT scores.

Emory is a nice option because if you complete 2 years of college work, you don't need to submit a HS transcript - which is basically what I wound up doing. Plus, fall admissions are rolling, so if you apply early, you can have a great shot.

Good luck!

Thanks but I dont want to wait two years, I would MUCH rather do it after freshman year that way I can have three years there as opposed to only 2, I acually was looking at emory, but i forgot to write it down for some reason

Emory looks awesome! I'm looking at it right now. Do they have a good International Affairs program?
