Hey there! I’m currently an undergrad hoping to transfer to a UC, I actually had previously committed and attended UC Davis very briefly but decided to move back home because I wasn’t happy with my decision. Since the next round of UC applications won’t be open for submission until Nov. 2020, that unfortunately means taking a lot of time between graduating from CC (I received my AD-T in June 2019) and starting up again as a junior transfer. With that being said, will the time off essentially hurt my application and make me appear less competitive compared to transfers who will be fresh out of CC in fall 2021? I have ~3.6-3.7 cumulative GPA, my GPA for my major (history) is a 4.0. I’ve made dean’s list for two consecutive years at my CC and I’m also working full-time at the moment. Would any of you recommend I go back to another CC just to raise my GPA and make it look like I spent less time out of school? Not sure how beneficial that option will be to me as I already have my AD-T and the credits to transfer as a junior but I’m open to it if it increases my chances. Ideally the schools I would be considering and applying to would be UC Berkeley, UCLA, and maybe UCSB. Any help/advice/opinions are appreciated!!!
What kinds of grades did you get at Davis?
Both transcripts matter.
The gap shouldn’t matter.
Your combined GPA and articulated courses will matter.
What did you not like about UC Davis?
I didn’t receive any grades at Davis, didn’t even stay long enough to have any information to go on a transcript. I should’ve been more specific when I stated I attended UCD briefly, by briefly I mean I went to a weeks’ worth of classes and moved back home. Not the best move but I also didn’t want to take a chance and get too deep into the quarter and have terrible grades as a reflection of my time there.
The school itself is great, I found the environment just wasn’t for me though.
It isn’t clear from your posts whether you started at Davis as a frosh, didn’t like it and left. Or finished your CC in June 2019, started at Davis this past fall, then left. I’m guessing this is what happened.
And also of critical importance is how you left. Did you fill out the paperwork to formally withdraw from Davis, or just stop going and leave thinking all would be forgotten? If the latter then you may have a quarter worth of failing classes on your record. You can’t transfer to another UC if you didn’t leave the previous one where you were enrolled in good standing.
If you withdrew from Davis and it was this past quarter, then you still should check to make sure UC will consider you a CC transfer and that the withdrawal removes Davis as the last school attended.
@mikemac, I finished my CC in June 2019 and my first quarter at UCD as a transfer was winter 2020 as I deferred for one quarter. Also, I did formally withdraw and fill out the paperwork to let the university know I would no longer be attending. I’ve been in touch with the UC admissions and I don’t think Davis would be considered the last school I attended and would still be considered a CC transfer on my applications since I left UCD with nothing on my record. I will double check to make sure though, thanks for the help!
