Hello!
I applied to UCLA, UCB, UCSD, and UCI for the fall 2011 term as a political science major.
I am an international student from Japan and a community college student.
I will finish IGETC by the end of this spring semester and my GPA is 4.0 so far.
As for UCB, I completed all major requirement classes.
As for UCLA, I finished three out of four political science requirement courses, and I am currently taking the last political science requirement class and required statistics this semester.
I guess my personal statement is unique and good enough, and I volunteered as a teaching assistant in Japanese classes for two years. Not honers student, no TAP though

What are my chances to be accepted from UCLA and UCB?
Also, doe anyone know how much of a disadvantage there is being an international student?
Thank you!

I’m assuming you’re attending a community college in America, and most likely CA. If so, then you have a really good shot. I think 90% for Berkeley and somewhere around the same for UCLA. If not, you still have a good chance.

4.0 is the max you can get but it’s never a 100% guaranteed thing. But yeah you definitely have a really great shot and I doubt you’re going to get rejected from either school.

Thank you for replying!
Sorry but I made a mistake,
I am not taking the 4th political science requirement class. I am taking statistics though.
Yes, I am at a CCC in America.

Being an International student will not harm your chances and might even improve them since the UCs are facing severe budget cuts from the state and International students, along with out of state students pay much higher tuition than California residents. Accepting more out of state and International students is seen as a way of raising desperately needed revenue.

I think you have excellent chances of acceptance at all of the UCs, including UCB and UCLA, but you should be aware that it is going to cost you over $40,000 a year to attend these schools and there is generally no financial aid available for International students.
