I am currently a junior in high school and in the third trimester at my high school. SDSU is my top school choice and i am a local San Diego resident. i expect to major in either nursing or accounting. i am a little confused on how SDSU calculates your GPA. here are my stats(they only look at a-g courses correct?)

Sophomore:
AP European Civilization 1: B
Chemistry 1: B
Honors Algebra 3: B
Spanish 5: B

AP European Civilization: B
Chemistry 2: B
Honors Algebra 4: B

High School English 3: A

High School English 4: A

for the current trimester i am in, i expect to maintain the type of grades i have been getting. so what would my CSU GPA be? and do honors classes count as extra points as long as AP classes? as for the SAT, i took it this month but i am expecting a ~1100/1600(SDSU does not look at the writing portion of the test correct?). i plan on re-taking it and plan on taking the act in the future.

yeah…so it turns out i got a 1050/1600…but im retaking so yeah!

Why is SDSU a top choice?

i think UC’s are too high of a reach with my grades

is the writing portion of the SAT considered in the admission process?

no^ it’s not considered.
I got in with a 3.6 weighted, 24 ACT and 1110/1600 SAT. Don’t stress it man

If your in the top 9% of your class you can get ELC to UCs like Santa Barbara or Davis, see what your rank is. You stats are good for state.

mezaruben93, what was your major? and are you a local area student?

pre-journalism and i live about 2 hours away from the campus.

alright hopefully i can get into pre-nursing

any pre-nursing majors mind sharing their stats?

just finished my junior year and grades 10-11 CSU GPA = 3.69 or 3.73 depending on if i am allowed to get another extra point for honor courses. I also re took the SAT this past weekend and feels like i did better, but not by that much . . .

Yah you should be fine.

Now that junior year is over here is my update. my CSU GPA is 3.73, and i retook the SAT but only got a 1070/1600, but superscored i have a 1120/1600. I want to apply as a pre-nursing major. I live in San Diego but not in their local admission area.

Nursing is one of the most competitive majors to get in at SDSU so you are competing against the nursing majors and your stats need to be higher than the avg. You need to increase your test scores; GPA is good. FYI- here’s last year’s stats:

SDSU received nearly 60,000 undergraduate applications for approximately 6,174 undergraduate enrollment slots for fall 2011.

“The newly admitted incoming freshmen have an average high school GPA of 3.78 and an average SAT score of 1148, the same record-setting academic credentials as last year’s incoming freshman class.”

should i apply as “undecided” then switch to nursing to have a better chance of being accepted?

ok so i am a junior in high school and want to major in psychology and it has always been my dream to go to SDSU but im so scared that my gpa isnt high enough for it i ended this year with a 3.3 gpa but i have always had A’s and B’s nothing worse. Do you think i have a good chance of getting in?

@whatdaef - I really don’t know if applying ‘undecided’ and then trying to get accepted into nursing later is a good option. Anytime you change majors, you have to get approval from the academic advisor of your new chosen major and I don’t know how hard it is to change into nursing.

I suggest you contact SDSU Prospective Students. They’re very helpful with answering questions as far as how to change majors, etc.

Admissions will only tell you that each year’s applicant pool is different so there’s no predicting on how many applicants will apply for a specific major (such as nursing) or what their grades/test scores will be.

@bjdudney - SDSU not only looks at GPA but also test scores so it’s hard to know what chance you have of being accepted just on a 3.3 GPA

How are your SAT or ACT scores?

alright so final update. i took the act and did horrible, got a 21 composite. retook the sat so now i have a 1140/1600 with my gpa 3.7 weighted. i have not submitted my application yet because i am having trouble figuring out how to input grades since my school is on trimesters. oh, and major is nursing
