Community Service Hours:
~100 (I should have at least 500 hours before I graduate)
I have recently applied early action to the freshman class for fall 2019. I haven’t received an acceptance or rejection, so I really can’t chance you. But I can give some advice.
Your extracurriculars are similar to mine, and your service is very impressive! However, community service is a buzzword these days. You should really have something to set yourself apart. As far as your SAT, it hurts to hear but your score simply isn’t high enough. It’s one number, but its a big one. You should seriously consider intense studying for the next several months, and then retaking the SAT before you apply. Shoot for the 1300 to 1400 range. It is not impossible, and if you study intensely you will be prepared. Your GPA is also a little bit low, but that isn’t a huge deal. If your school offers an SAT prep course (mine did not), take advantage of it.
It’s not too late to make huge leaps for your application. The fact that you qualify for in state tuition is a huge plus. You sound like the kind of leader Chapel Hill is looking for. Write stellar essays, and ace the SAT, and you have very strong chances. Best of luck to you!
I agree with @HarrisDavis. Show that you are really interested in something in particular, and pursue that. And definitely work to bring up your SAT. Essay and recs will be important as well, so make sure to form strong relationships with teachers.
Thank you so much, this was very helpful, do you mind me asking what’s your sat score was?
