both of you should be fine. Go check last years threads, the UCLA/UCB transfers on CC were worrying like crazy. Very few of the people here on CC were rejected though and the vast majority of us got into our top choices whether it be ucla or ucb.

refering back to the comment about "how did you do better in Calc 2 than Calc 1? Isn't it harder"? It's always possible to do better in harder classes, just that you work extra hard, you can get the results.

My friend transfered to UCLA from a CC. Her major was physiological science, I believe it was an impacted major. Her major GPA was like a 3.0 but overall she's like 3.2. She received a few C's in organic chem and all those classes

She worked hard in UCLA and now she has been on the dean's list for 2 consecutive quarters.

IBraiN:
That's very good that you pulled it up.
I say I have to give you about a 5. You majors are highly impacted. Nonetheless the GPA is still lower than the average applicants to those majors. You still have a shot though.
Also, write a great essay explaining your family problems.

I say you have a great chance.
although you struggled your first year, the latter years you got all A's.
That is REALLY good. This is an example of "Early grades not an indication of student's success". However, your essay will play THE BIGGEST factor for the admission. It all depends on how well you can explain the family problem you had during the first year.
