What are my chances to UCLA?

i'm like really worried regarding UCLA transfer.
so just for fun, i want you to guys rate my chance from 1 - 10:

1 = No chance what-so-ever unless some huge miracle occurs

10 = Admission Guaranteed unless some huge unexpected tragedy occurs

WHAT IM PLANNING ON DOING BY THE END OF FALL SEMESTER:

Internship as an assistant CPA

Emerging Leadership Program
Continue on with my job/volunteer
Raise my GPA to 3.83

Courses Taken + Grades:

Dance Appreciation (Don't ask) - A
Macroeconomics - A
Microeconomics - A
Calculus I - B
Calculus II - A
Geology - B

Sociology 101 - A

GPA: 3.71

What I'm taking this semester:

Principles of Accounting I
Principles of Accounting II (yes, im in PACE program, i can take both in one semester)
Economics History of U.S.
Business 101

Math Analysis for Business and Sociological Science

All A's on these courses means Cum. GPA of 3.83

So here it is. All about my status.
Oh yeah, and let's assume I wrote a mediocre essay.

Just for your info,
Avg. GPA of admitted students for Bus. Econ major fo 2005 Fall was 3.8
and 3.61 for Econ/International Studies.

Now Rate please.
oh and what about for UC Berkeley and USC?

oh and one last thing, I passed bunch of AP coures, so I already got like 29 credits just using my AP scores, so please dont ask about why i took so few classes :)

Your activities are pretty good. I have to give you about a 7-8 ish rating because of the hugely impacted major(s), despite your good academic record and EC's. With what you're doing now and the past, it's no doubt you seem like someone who will thrive in the UCLA environment. But you never know since your major is impacted.. Just remember to write a kick ass essay to help you out. As for Berkeley and USC, I don't know too much about those schools..

I'm assuming you are applying this Fall, so I am.

I'm really worried as well. :(

I'm just curious, but how did you manage an A in calc 2 when you got a B in calc 1? I was always under the impression that calc 2 was harder.

"I'm just curious, but how did you manage an A in calc 2 when you got a B in calc 1? I was always under the impression that calc 2 was harder."

Yup, calc II was indeed harder.
I seriously have no success guarantee method.
All I did was study hard and LOT.
Whenever there was a test, I studied at least 10 hours, and for the Final, I studied 6 hours a day for three weeks.. thats about.. 90hours?
And the result, an A.

I just didn't try as hard for Calc I. I was pretty laid back.
But after gettinga B, I got really desperate for an A in Calc II in hope of making up for the B.

But sadly, that resulted in B for the Geology class.
I'm not really worried about my B in Calc I since I got A for the more advanced math course, but as for Geology, I'm slightly worried.
I'm just hoping that the admission committee doesn't look too hard on it since Geology got absolutely NOTHING to do with economics. :(

I would give you a 7/8 as well for UCLA. With UCB it depends whether you would major in econ or bus admin. For econ I would also put you in the 7/8 range. Bus admin is too competitive to say.

Yes.
I was considering a Business major for UCB.
But after looking at the assist.org for required course.. i gave up on it.
I pretty much had to take like 5 other courses (all HARD), and I wanted to focus on economics, not business.

And I remember someone say that if my plan is to go to a Business School (which actually is my plan), then he recommends me to major in economics rather than business because that way I also have some knowledge on economics, so i can combine that with business to do better.

So yeah, I really dun care for Bus Admin. :P

In that case I think you have a pretty good chance at either school. ;)

lol.....can anyone rate my chance at making ucla and uc berkeley?
thanks in advance

i'll be applying as a math/applied science (actuarial plan) for ucla -- average accepted gpa is like 3.57

applied math for berkeley -- don't know about average accepted gpa

Courses taken:
Calc I - A
Calc II - A
Macroeconomics - A
Microeconomics - A
whole bunch of GE classes some beginning programming class 7/9 - A and 2/9 -B

Essay - mediocre

EC:
Work 15 hrs a week
Playing on a basketball team for some church
tutoring math for elementary kids
a bit volunteering for the city
William Millers Award/Scholarship from CC's Math department

GPA as of now: 3.82

Plan for Fall 07:
Marine Biology
Physical Science(critical thinking and writing)
Linear Algebra
Multi Variable Calculus
Note* - Will be Igetc certified by the end of Fall and total semester units will be 67 by then

Assuming I'll be acing everything for fall except a B in either Math course (gpa would be 3.79 if so)

what are my chances???

I say you have a VERY high chance.
9 range. AT LEAST for UCLA.

Your GPA is good (if you maintain that 4.0). I checked the UCLA site and about 53% of students who applied your major got in. That's pretty high rate, and you have above average GPA compare to the admitted students, so you have REALLY good chance.
Even if you don't ace and get 3.79 you still should have a very high chance.

It would be better though if you could add in one more EC.
Perhaps joining a club or something. That would definitely raise your chance to a 9.5-10 range :)

Dang PHYSICS and CALCULUS.
Science and math, my two least favorite branch of study.
Just looking at your courses makes me wanna throw up.

Oops nvm, your GPA isn't 4.0 afterall. But really, that won't make any significantly huge difference regarding your admission.

moonboy - i just got through with Calc III this summer (multivariable calc) and it wasn't as hard as Calc II, but harder than Calc I. Unless you're really great at math, I wouldn't really suggest Linear Algebra AND Calc III in the same semester. You'll wish you hadn't.

Moonboy you have a very goodshot, I'd give you aboiut a 8-9.

brand, what possessed you to take multivar calc. j/k, but seriously are you a planned math major?

8.5. your chances are great. keep it up and i woudlnt worry.

i'm insane. I mainly took it to look better than any other applicant at my CC. :)

The only other ppl in my class were from UT. So that's good. And I got the highest grade.

I'll either have to pair up linear algebra with multi variable calc OR differential equation with linear algebra

which one would you prefer brand?

or better yet...does anyone know which CC in LA has Linear Algebra for winter session? SMC has it?

ok lol well in that case, you're doing the right thing.

I've heard that Diff Eq is considerably harder than Lin Alg and my teacher said Lin Alg could actually be taken before multivariable. Yeah, in your situation, if you've gotta have all three, that's how I'd do it also. Good luck man! You've got a fun time ahead, but I'm sure you can handle it.

edit: but if you can take lin alg in the winter, do it!

2-3...

Course load is weak, GPA is atrocious, and you do not attend Santa Monica College; that's three strikes buddy. I'd be surprised if they even spend more than five minutes on your application before casting it into the reject bin.

lol yes i agree awful courseload those are the worst math classes ever.
