What are my chances? (Transfer 2016 Fall)

Hey everyone!

Long story short: I used to not be into school so I had really bad grades and then I ended up taking a break from school for awhile. But I obviously decided to go back and have been trying to bring up my GPA since then. I’m making excellent grades—even made it onto the president’s list last Fall semester.

So I was wondering…What are my chances of getting accepted into SDSU?

Major -Child Development
Location -San Diego (Grossmont College)
GPA -2.53
AA/AS-T? They no longer offer it in my major :frowning:

SDSU’s GPA requirement for Child Development major is 2.4 and I have a 2.53 right now. Is it even worth it to apply this Fall? Or should I not apply this Fall and just focus on raising my GPA and also get an Associates Degree before applying for next year? I’m low-key freaking out that I won’t get in if I apply now cause then I wasted money applying. And also, SDSU is my number one choice. I really don’t want to have to move. I also heard they’re not doing TAG for my major this year either which is also another reason why I am low-key freaking out.

I don’t know how long you were out of school before you went back, but if your grades are significantly better now you should try to do an academic renewal before you apply to San Diego State.

The list of majors excluded from their TAG program is pretty short - and I don’t see Child Dev on it. Are you sure you can’t find a TAG available major that will work for you?

Outside of TAG, SDSU is very competitive for transfers - even local ones. It will take a year or more to raise your GPA to the point where you’ll be a competitive applicant.

I’d suggest you apply to a TAG eligible program as soon as the ap window opens -

@alexisNS I took a 3 year break. And thanks for the advice. I requested academic renewal and it got approved! Thank you so much for telling me about it.

Congrats! Hopefully it helps significantly.

@alexisNS I got ACCEPTED to SDSU!!! I got my GPA up to a 3.11! Thank you so much again for telling me about academic renewal.
