WHAT ARE MY CHANCES@wharton!?

I’m apply to wharton Ed to pls tell me my chances, i know it’s very hard to get in, so be harsh! thanx!

SAT-1500,v700, m800
rank-23/534 in a pretty competitive school
GPA-4.6w

I have a full IB diploma, so i’ve been taking the hardest classes since freshmen yr, then later on i had some ap and ib classes mixed together. I mostly make A’s, very few B’s…i got them all in the sciense department-(like bio, chem, phys…grr

EC:
swim team-4yrs
tennis team-3yrs
nhs-3yrs
choir-4, and a couple of choir related clubs
model UN-2 yrs
big bro/sis-2 yrs
BETA-2 yrs
piano lesson-8 yrs
only a internationally challenged award passed out in 8th grade…i know, pretty sad…-(

volunteering at local hospital and library, also tutor at elementry school. i did a summer camp counceling program after my junior yr.

i am a chinese, came over to u.s. when i was 10. my first two summers in HS i went back to china on vacation and i would help my dad with his business there and do some tutoring too. my mom also owns a linen store, and i go to her store every sat. and run her store for her…(if that counts for any working experience at all…)

i think my biggest weakness is that i don’t have any leadership quality…, but it’s really all just a big popularity contest and i’ve tried a few times but never got selected…i believe this is definately going to hurt my chances deeply-( i also don’t really have too many EC…and the ones i do have aren’t exactly intersting… so any idea how i can improve my chances…???

i also applied to yale, duke, columbia, cornell, and MIT, pls rate my chances on those too-) any comment will be appreciated thanx!

oh, and i speak 3 languages, mandarin as my 1st, english 2nd, and learned spanish in HS...

can't say I can tell. The leadership aspect will hurt somewhat, but who knows? Make sure your essays are good, those are important in any case.

Applying ED helps too. Hell, who am I kidding? I have no clue whether you'll get in. Good luck though!

As to the other schools: also hard to tell, but the most sure thing I can say is that MIT prob won't come out in your favor. I only say this because I've seen too many incredibly strong candidates, many of whom were much stronger than you (or me also) get rejected. Yale is also tricky. I can't really make an accurate judgment on any of the others though.

once again, good luck

thanx a lot jarahul! anyone else?????????????????????plsssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!

Leadership is important in business, so that will hurt you. There are other ways to demonstrate leadership w/o holding a leadership position. For example, you could organize an event.

or earn a position somehow in some form outside of school

and it's difficult to tell for any top-notch school, really. good luck, though!

thanx.ic...-(, but can anyone predict my chances so far?

do i even have a slight chance applying now to those schools...?

assuming you are now a senior, if you have mostly 5's on AP's, and 6-7 score(s) on any Ib exam(s) you may have taken, and 780-800 SAT II's, I'd say you have a good shot at most of the schools (except Yale). I know what you mean about the whole leadership positions, I think its a load of bull b/c it is just a popularity contest as u said, at least at my school. What about national merit, or any other awards? I would suggest you focus on a good essay (maybe you could assess the lack of leadership positions?), and if u have time, work on getting a good new SAT score (getting around 1550 for the combined verbal and math).

You certainly have a chance. The average applicant to Wharton has a 13% chance RD & 26% chance ED. You are better than the average applicant, but how much better it would be hard to place precisely.

Do you go to Wharton, stambilark? SAT IIs are good from 700-800, im sure, right, everyone?

yes. a higher sat II for math IIC is probably a good idea

Good. Is 760 high enough? Also, do you think a high math ACT score (34) would compensate?

no peatergriffin but i would like to. :)

I am very numbers oriented & can kinda pick through stuff.

700-800 is OK, but I think it's best to have everything 750+ if possible. A 760 is high enough, but if you are confident that you score an 800 I would retake it. A 34 is comparable to a 760, so I don't think it would compensate for it.

I don't give you much of a chance at Wharton. Many applicants have high scores. The things that get you admitted are the intangibles like leadership. Re math IIC keep in mind that a 760 is like only the top 20% or so - the scaling is very tough on this exam.

No for Yale and Duke, yes for Cornell. Maybe for Columbia and MIT.

Wait, so a 760 is bad?

A 760 is fine. However, if you are confident you can score an 800, retake.

Would a 720 on USH be bad (but a 5 on the AP test—would that compensate?)?

oops, i left one out srry, what about my chances at berkeley RD???

peater i had like a 720 (=/) on USH, but like starbucksguy said, "intangibles"... so many people with amazing scores apply to all of these schools. scores only take you so far.
