ANy reply is helpful, I want to go to:
Stanford
Cornell
Middlebury
Georgetown
Carnegie Mellon
UC Berkeley
MIT
University of Washington

You do not have to answer every single one, most of those colleges are great Computer Science schools and some I just love!

Will FRESHMAN YEAR RUIN ME?

THANKS FOR READING

No freshman year will not ruin you lol

Freshman year doesn’t matter for many universities.
In fact, some every recalculate your GPA without freshman year.

Stanford - Reach
Cornell - Low reach
Middlebury - idk what that is
Georgetown - High match
Carnegie Mellon - Low reach
UC Berkeley - Low reach
MIT - Reach
University of Washington - Match

I chanced back, you should aim for better colleges, extremely qualified!

Freshman year might hurt. Rigor is an issue for most of those schools on your list. Admission rates for several of them is less than 10%, and they are looking for reasons to take people off the list.

What we’ve heard is that for computer science majors, they want AP Calculus BC/AP Physics. If your school does not offer it, that’s different, but it sounds like you could self-study and take it with no problem.

I would say build on what is unique in your resume, especially computer experience outside of school and working. If you can somehow swing your individual knowledge into something documented, like winning a contest or documenting the published articles and so on, or giving a talk at a conference, that would help.

The other thing is that going to a summer program at Georgetown and applying there is a good idea. If there is any way you can swing a recommendation from someone at that summer program, that might help too. Or a recommendation from a corporate contact.

@rhandco‌ Thanks for such a helpful reply also!
Great ideas about building on my unique parts in my resume, I should definitely apply for contests or write and article! I will totally try to get one of the professors from Georgetown who spoke to help me go to it. I totally forgot about my corporate friends/mentors, thank you so much!

Yeah… I would have looked into cyberschooling. My school allows students to go to cyberschools for free if they don’t offer certain AP courses. Complaining about it to guidance counselors actually makes a ton of progress.

Trust me, when you graduate college (or even if you don’t go to college!), connections will matter much more than the college name on your degree. If you can maintain relationships throughout college no matter where you go, you will have a head start on the job market (or becoming an entrepreneur).

Another consideration is that there are more than a few outstanding honors programs with admission based solely on test scores, sometimes with free rides. Look for schools with large endowments - my son is looking at RPI very seriously, and they give a lot of merit aid based on test scores only.

PS - I thought I mentioned self-study for AP Computer Science, but I don’t see it listed in my response. I would consider doing that to show your computer science knowledge.

I was looking at AP Computer Science, but when I saw “Java” I realized I could not do it :l
I create iPhone Apps mainly, I want to get into the counterintelligence field though

That would have been a great tip a few years ago O_O
I regret not knowing all of this info!
Thanks you guys so much!

No, freshman year will not ruin it for you. Your GPA and scores aren’t too bad and should be able to get into a lot of schools. Your ECs are average, nothing super stellar except your app company. btw, I, too am a debater, a nationally ranked LD debater! Maybe we know each other?
