What are my chances with 30 on ACT

So what are my chances with 30 on ACT and 3.9 GPA? I have taken 5 AP classes. I know there is a lot goes on in admission but just trying to get some ballpark understanding.

I'm not looking at highly selective schools such as Harvard, MIT etc with that score. But would be interested in Schools such as University of Penn, RICE, Cornell etc. Most of them have 75 percentile at 30-34. That means score of 30 would put you at 25-30% bracket. So that leads to, you gotta have some big hooks. I'm not sure how big of a hook. On the other hand the above schools also list 10-12% applicants in 24-29 range. I would imagine these are applicants with big hooks such as performing artists, athletes at state and national level.

Rice - low reach
Penn - reach (still a selective ivy)
Cornell - reach
You should try Georgetown, George Washington, UMass, UMichigan

Is 3.9 weighted or unweighted?

what is LAC? Is that liberal arts colleges? I’m interested in majoring in Business/Communications.

3.9 unweighted. Weighted is like 4.0 or above

How about NYU, University of Austin Texas, Duke, Syracuse.

Not an expert, but I’ll give my 2 cents based on myself and people I know…

I got into Penn with similar ACT/GPA as you. Although I know of people who also did as well and better who didn’t get accepted. I also know people who didn’t have as good of standardized testing who got into Penn as well. At all of the Ivies, it’s a huge tossup.

I think you’d be fine in Syracuse and NYU (maybe depending on what school you apply to)

Good luck :)

NYU and Duke would be reaches…

almost all the schools you listed are highly selective

Thanks guys appreciate your help.

Why do you think Duke will be reach? Isn’t Duke at par with Cornell, U penn, Rice? So if I’m not a reach with Cornell, U penn, how am I reach with Duke? Just curious.

You are a reach with all of those…
