I have a low unweighted GPA ( 3.4 out of 4.0). But I have a decent weighted GPA (6.2). All of my classes have been IB and AP classes, with the exception of one regular class (Band). My senior year classes include: IB Stats and introductory differential calc, IB English IV, IB Psychology II, IB History if the Americas, IB French V, IB Biology II, AP Micro/Macro economics, AP Stats, and Band V. I also have a very low SAT score (1610) but I plan to retake them so i don't think that that'll be a problem. My ECs are not impressive; I do marching/concert band (have some leadership positions), IB Honor Council (charter member), National Honor Society. I have also done some volunteering (tutoring at local elementary school for two years) By the way, I am doing a gap year in between high school and college, in which i will be volunteering abroad. I am a URM (Mexican), and first generation, from Florida.552 out 11918 in rank (county rank, school does tell you rank unless you are in the top 10). My first choice is the University of Virginia, I also plan to apply to UC Berkeley, and UNC at Chapel Hill. What do you think my chances are? How much does my GPA hinder my chances? I was thinking about applying to a couple of ivies, just to say that I tried, do you think I should? Is there anything that I can to during my GAP year to improve my chances?
Thanks in advance :)
