What are my chances? Yale, Dartmouth, CMC, and UNC Chapel Hill

Hi all!
I’m looking to major in biology/science as a premed student.

STATS
-4.0uw gpa (our school doesn’t do weighted, but probably ~4.3uw)
-ranked #1 out of 300, although there are 30 others who are ranked #1 (I know, it’s weird). So just top 10% for sure
-National Merit Semi-finalist
-1530 SAT
-predicted 750 on SATII Math and SATII Literature, maybe a 700 on SATII Molecular Bio
-first gen college student
-from MT (I don’t know if that makes a difference?)
-almost full IB schedule for junior and senior year, with the exception of taking dual credit pre-calc and AP Calc instead of IB Math 1 & 2
-NHS vice president
-Key Club executive member
-paid canvasser for 30hrs/wk over the summer
-current volunteer at the same place as above^, 3-6hrs/wk. Register voters, write articles, etc.
-environmental club member, wrote an article for our local newspaper on sustainability. Started a composting program at our school
-I’m Asian, divorced parents, and from a middle income family. I feel like this might hurt my chances?
-there are some other small things, but I think they would be pretty insignificant to my app, so I won’t add them

If I don’t have a good chance at these schools, are there any other top schools that I would have a shot at? Any input is appreciated! Thanks:)

Being from Montana could provide these schools good geographic diversity and is definitely a plus. Your stats will have you competitive at all these schools but they are obviously reaches, even UNC since you are OOS. Have match and safety schools on your list too.

Thanks for the reply! And no worries, I’ve already applied and been accepted to some safeties. I have a few “fit” schools too.

And p.s.-I already applied to Yale SCEA, so I’m just hoping for a miracle haha. If not, I know that I can be successful wherever I go if I put my mind to it! Haha still hoping for that Welcome letter ?

Hi @seagreensoul ,

Stats: Great job! I would suggest trying to get a higher score on the SAT Bio Test. Since you are premed, you want to have a relatively high science subject test score.
ECs: Average, nothing outstanding.
Awards: None listed but hopefully you have some?
Summer stuff: I was hoping you would have a hospital volunteer thing or maybe a research internship. Those would have helped tremendously.
Misc: Race is not going to help you. Being from Montana will help a little for geographic diversity.

Recommendations for colleges:
Brown and Northwestern have accelerated medical programs I think.
I would also try some in state schools and some UCs as well. Given that premed is one of if not the most competitive fields besides computer science, sometimes it is all luck. I would plan on having a backup major such as biology or psychology in case the premed track doesn’t come through. Good Luck!

Thanks! But yeah:(. I didn’t ever express to my GC that I wanted to apply to T20 schools (I always thought they were too far out), so by the time I decided that I would (which was spring of Junior year) it was kind of too late to make any major changes. I really wish I could have done some hospital volunteering or this research class at my school where you just spend the whole year working on a science project and writing/publishing a paper; it sounded so fun! But my schedule didn’t allow it.
