What are my chances?

I am wondering what my chances of getting into the following master's degree programs in computer science for the following colleges:

Syracuse University
Santa Clara University
San Francisco State University
Mills College
San Jose State
Southern Oregon University

Here are my credentials:
GPA: 3.19 (3.76 for the last 33 credits though)
GRE: 460 verbal, 740 quantitative, and 4.5 analytical writing
My undergrad degree is in mental health from an average liberal arts college.
I have no background in computer science or a related field (I intend to complete the undergrad requirements after conditional admission)!
I will probably have good letters of recommendation.

Thank in advance for the replies.

Responses would be appreciated.

Nobody does “chances” for graduate school, because they’re entirely meaningless. Nobody on this forum has a clue what the professors who review your application will think about it, when compared to the hundreds of other applicants. None of us on this forum feel like wasting your time, and ours, with random, uninformed speculation.

Your best bet is to look at the database of actual admissions results at thegradcafe.com. Even that is merely a few self-selected pieces of data.

What I was trying to get at is whether I am a decent candidate for a masters degree in computer science based off of the information given. I wasn’t necessarily expecting anyone to have an intimate knowledge of the particular programs I mentioned, but I was hoping some would be able to give me some useful input.

Perhaps I should have named the thread something like, “Am I a good MS Computer Science candidate.”

My guess is no, given your lack of experience/coursework. I think you should start courses first and then apply, rather than hoping for a conditional acceptance based on no proof of aptitude.

UPDATE: Santa Clara University accepted me, Mills somewhat accepted me (accepted me to post-baccalaureate certificate program instead of MA because of my lack of pre-reqs), while others have told me it will take them more time to decide. I have received no (complete) rejections yet.

Regardless of where I decide to go, I look forward to the challenge of graduate studies in a new field!

I believe that my GRE math score (740, 79 percentile), as well as very positive letters of recommendations from my excellent professors (I suspect without seeing them), contributed to being accepted in spite of not having any background in computer science.
