Hi, so my dream school is University of Chicago
I already applied early action and I was wondering what anyone thought about my chances
I am a white female (25% Dominican if that means anything) with a 99/100 gpa (weighted) and a 2220 SAT score (CR 690, Math 740, Writing 790) number 2 in my class
Taken 3 APs (World History-3, US History-5, Chemistry-4) and in the process of taking AP Calculus and AP Lang & Comp
I do three varsity sports, i'm a girl scout, I'm in marching band and a few other clubs
Vice President of National Honor Society, captain of 2/3 of my sports
Both parents are college grads, but low income ($43,000/yr for fam of 5)
I play piano and saxophone, had a part time job since sophomore yr
Cancer survivor - wrote my college essay about my huge scars (not sappy/emotionally i promise)
Please, someone let me know what my chances are?
Also, if anyone knows when early action decisions are delivered, that would be great! :)

I think you have a pretty good chance sarahkam. Not willing to put a % on it, though. You’ve had some significant life challenges, which clearly you’ve overcome. I think your application will show that you can do the work which is the first and most important hurdle, right? What will be determinant in your case is the passion and intellectual “fit” that you showed in your essays, and which is shown about you in your recommendations, in my opinion. Also, we don’t know where you are from, which could help you if, say, you live in Wyoming or inside the City of Chicago. If you are not selected in EA, I expect you to be deferred. If you are not ultimately selected, I would think you would have been very close.

I don’t know when the EA decisions are emailed. I would think the web site would show that, but maybe not.

Best of luck to you.

It’s obviously a reach (I’m sure that you knew that), but certainly possible. You don’t have anything out of the ordinary to your application, but you will certainly warrant consideration. I do have two questions:

Did you put Hispanic or Caucasian for your race?

How on Earth did you incorporate your story of surviving cancer into your U Chicago essays?

I put both! And no that was my personal statement, not the specific uchicago supplements

The 690 critical reading stands out as a negative. You should get some coaching and retake the test in case you are deferred.
I hope you get accepted. The rest of your application is impressive.
Good Luck.

The only thing I’d say is to work on your test scores. Like the person above me said, you might want to retake the SAT if you get deferred (since it is your dream school you want to up your chances as much as possible). Maybe also take the ACT, since many students do better on it. Overall, you seem like a unique applicant, something UChicago definitely seems to be looking for.
