I'm a sophomore in his second semester at The University of Virginia and I really want to transfer to either Berkeley or UCLA for my Junior year but I don't know what my chances are, especially considering UC's pref California community college kids. I made it painfully apparent in my optional essay as to why I wanted to transfer to both of these schools and I think everything else on my application was generally good...here are some of my stats:

-School: University of Virginia
-I'm in state in California
-Applying for Economics
-Completed most to all of my prereqs to transfer
-Cumulative GPA: 3.14, but I've shown an upward trend from a 2.8 (1st semester), 3.1 (2nd semester), 3.5 (3rd semester)
-Had good activities on my application including a few internships and a lot of volunteer experience

What are the chances I'd be accepted to either program, and what alternatives might I have? Any insight will help!

why leave UVA its a really good school but yeah i do understand the money and home issue. TBH i dont think you have a shot at all at UCLA, they are just too competitive and GPA based. as for UC Berkeley, you MAY have a shot. wont be a great one, but still one nonetheless just cause they consider literally everything. also the fact that your grades are from a university like UVA will play in your favor to somewhat help with your GPA situation. but overall you don’t have a very good shot at all at either schools sorry :(

Yeah, I agree with the other posters. You have no chance at UCLA. Economics at UCLA is impacted; the average transfer economics student had a 3.9 GPA.

Maybe consider one of the lower UC’s.
Merced, UCR, UCD, or maybe even UCSB.

In your case it would actually be good for tuition purposes that you are a CA resident, but bad that you’re not coming from a CCC and therefore unable to TAG.

But for UCLA or UCB even if you were a 9/10 on a diversity scale and had a great PS UCLA and UCB wouldn’t admit you for Econ. Sorry
