What are my chances?

Hey. I am a class of 2017 student. I want to know my chance to get in University of Georgia. My freshman and sophomore gpa is really good. My freshman gpa was 4.0 but the classes were not that challenging. My overall gpa during sophomore year was 4.01 with honors classes. And now I am a junior, but then my junior year gpa killed my overall gpa. I used to be 4.01 but then it went down to 3.8. Because Junior year, im taking the hardest classes and I got one c in first semister and another c in second semister. So i got 2 c’s in junior year. I regret so hard that I did not try that hard in Junior year. I know that UGA’s minimum gpa average is around 3.8 but i think it will be like 50%chance to get in. So I am going to try hard in first semister of senior year and bring my gpa up to 4.07. I calculated and it’s 80% possible to bring my gpa at least 4.0. So for regular decision, what are my chances?

@ugauga

Don’t worry about it. I got into UGA EA this year, and while UGA is competitive, you’re the type of student who would be accepted. Were the classes that you took this year AP courses? If so, UGA will add extra weight to those classes, so essentially, your C’s will become B’s. To explain, the UGA GPA on their website is a UGA recalculated GPA, and if you took AP courses, then I would say that you’re UGA GPA is over a 4.0.

Make sure to get your ACT in the 30 range, or your SAT 2000+, and you’re good to go. I’m not going to say that UGA is necessarily easy to get into, but don’t get worried on all the speculation of it being that difficult to get into. I also personally believe that the earlier you apply, the better it looks. So I would say, when the application comes out, send it ASAP.

Don’t apply RD, because you are a competitive candidate for EA, and its really stressful to wait till March. Some students from my school were also deferred, so I understand the wait. For argument purposes, I’m going to assume that you have, say a 30 on your ACT. With your 4.0 GPA and 30 ACT - with say, 5-6 AP courses, I think your good as gold and probably more so for EA.

Correct me if I am assuming wrong and I would be happy to attempt to re-evaluate your chances (also, what major are you applying for?).
