Sophie Davis is a dream and I feel like I’m very dedicated to being an MD and fear that my GPA although is above the 85, might bring me down.
My regents scores are mostly above 85 with an exception of like 2 one being in trig with an 84 and one being in Russian with a 81.
My worst class average on my transcript is a 79 in trig but that is still considered a B- at my school.
Hi
Well to start off, although your GPA is not strong, you do have a lot of great extracurriculars, a large amount of volunteering hours, and a really high SAT score, which definitely caught my eye. I really do think you have a very strong chance. You should totally apply, and I think you can definitely land an interview. But one thing to advise you, make sure that above anything else - above scores, volunteer hours, and etc - your ESSAYS should be your top priority. I can’t stress that enough. There are people who got excellenttttt grades, great great volunteering and extracurriculars, (there were even people who traveled across the country to get medical experience to put on their sophie application) but because of their not-so-great essays, they didn’t even get an interview. Make SURE above anything else to make a BOMB essay that will blow the admission officers away.
For me, my SAT score was in the mid 1300s, I had very very few APs (with not so great scores), around less than 200 volunteering hours, and didn’t nearly have extracurriculars as amazing as you did, but it was my essays that got me through [even though I didn’t get accepted, but i was waitlisted! ]. Not tooting my own horn, but just giving advice, my essays were very strong, and I worked really really hard on them when I was applying, and I got an interview. It goes to show that even if your scores and extracurriculars/volunteering may not be great, you can still have a chance. After you get an interview, it is how well you can actually speak and present yourself to your interviewers which will get you in, which I clearly didn’t do significantly in lol xD .
So bottom line is, if you can write 3 really bomb essays, I really think you can cover for your low GPA.
I wish you a LOTTT of luck and really do hope you get in!!!
