I’m trying to get into Rutgers New Brunswick, New York University, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Michigan, and other reasonably selective public colleges. Here are how my grades look so far:
Freshman Year
Chinese 1/2 => 73.4
Drafting I => 85.9
English 1 => 95.1
Geometry => 90.75
Geophysical Science => 94.34
Health 1=> 98
ROTC 1 => 95.05
World History => 93.1
In Junior year I am taking two APs and two Honors courses and have mostly As and Bs. I took two SAT subject tests (Math 1 with a 740 and Bio E that’s really low so I won’t be sending it). I work as a lifeguard, I volunteer at my local library, I am on my school’s JV track team and varsity swim team. Do I have a good chance with these colleges?
Can you summarize with W/UW GPA? Have you taken SATs/ACTs yet? Based on grades/ECs alone I’d say good shot at Rutgers, and less so at the other 3. But without more information no one can really chance you yet.
Also, take Math 2 if you redo Subject exams. Those schools don’t care about Math 1. You have to taken AP Bio yet correct? I believe the Subject exams will be easier for you after you’ve had AP level courses in the subject matter.
I hope you will take this in the way intended (trying to be helpful), but I checked your past threads and you are really angsty about a lot of college admission details. It is great you’re on top of it, and care. But please don’t burn out. Your most stressful year is still ahead. Take a deep breath and don’t forget to have a little fun. Stay off CC for a while-- this is a terrible place for self image IMO.
@Techno13 My current unweighted GPA is 3.5353 while my weighted GPA is 3.604 using my school’s GPA scale. I will make sure to stay off CC but I just want a good estimate for now. Do you have a better idea given these GPAs?
Your GPA as of now is a little low for those school’s, but its early for you so I would recommend taking difficult classes Junior year and doing well in them to boost your UW GPA and to show an advanced course load. You have good extra curricular, and while some of these are kind of reaches with your current GPA, getting your unweighted GPA up to 3.6-3.7 would make you competitive.
