What are my chances?

Hi, whoever has come across this. I am a 15 y/o freshman at a Maryland high school. It’s always been my dream to go to a competitive Ivy League university. I have a 3.5uw GPA and a 4.0w GPA. I am apart of 3 clubs; Debate, Mock Trial, and Key Club. I am also engaged in a sport, track. Does my low GPA eliminate my chances of getting into one of these highly selective schools?

  1. You're a freshman. Most people on here will tell you this, but you haven't had time to develop your ECs, grades, and probably passions as well. Who knows if your GPA will stay at 3.5UW or rise to a 3.8 after a year or two of hard work? Who knows if you'll bomb or ace your SATs/ACTs? Who knows if you'll find debate, mock trial, and Key club truly interesting and motivating? There's just so many questions that won't be solved without a few years. Please save yourself the stress; log off CollegeConfidential after reading this, and enjoy high school. Hang out with some friends, study, find what you're good/bad at, enjoy life.
  2. If I did have to answer your question about if your GPA is too low, it always depends on circumstances. What race are you? Did you have family/friend problems? Do you suffer from mental or physical illnesses? In general, I will tell you that a 3.5UW will generally not make the cut at the highly selective schools you're looking at. However, you've got more than two years to add to your transcript.

Enjoy your life, and don’t worry about college yet!

Why do you HAVE to go to an IVY? What do you know about them? They are all VASTLY DIFFERENT!!! Is this a prestige thing? Have fun in high school! Do activities that you really enjoy. Figure that out first.

**If anything, please learn this: the word “apart” means to separate. ** As in: “take the pieces apart”
When you say you are

you are saying that you are separated from 3 clubs. You are supposed to use two words when you are saying that you are “a part of” a club or sport. Your applications have to be strong when you apply.

Figure out what your parents will be able to afford. Universities are expensive and competitive. It’s rare to get funding to attend. You’ll be surprised that your parents have to pay for your education.

Freshman? lol why are you even here

Dreams are something that directly convert into fruitful accomplishments; doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc. Any reasonable university can fulfill that. There’s nothing these selective schools offer than you can’t obtain at an affordable school.
