What are my chances

Hey all -

I'm an OOS-er from Texas. I'm here for summer sessions (thank God that's almost over) and I'd appreciate it if you guys could give me a heads up as to what my chances are of getting in.

I must admit, my grades aren't spectacular, but I'm hoping that due to my outside circumstances and extracurriculars, that will somehow, hopefully, even it out a bit.

I'm an over-represented minority (Asian), I'll be the first to go to college in my family, and I'm considered a low-income family.

I'm not sure of my unweighted GPA, but my weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale is about 3.9~ish. I'm in the top 15% of my class (out of about 1300 students).

My SAT scores were okay, 720 in CR, 690 in math & writing, 12 on my essay.

My AP scores:
- AP World History: 3
- AP Human Geography: 4
- AP Lit & Comp: 5
- AP US History: 4
- AP Biology: 3

I'm taking my SAT2s (Math 2c, Biology E/M, Literature) in October and I'm expecting a score around 700+ for all three.

Taking MIMG12 (Bioterrorism & Emerging Infections) for Summer Session A here at UCLA - my predicted grade will be most likely an A/B.

Extracurriculars:

Piano - 12 years, won various state and local competitions (annually)
- Will be performing with the city symphony orchestra next summer
(i'll obviously go into way more detail when i apply)

Violin - 8 years

Orchestra - 6 years (school orchestra was #1 in the state)
- Orchestra Officer for 2 years

Academic Decathlon (1 year)

NHS (duh) - all 4 years

Student Congress - 2 years
- Class Representative

Swimming - 2 years (had to quit because of scheduling problems)
- 3rd place in District
- 100Breast, 200IM, 50Free, 200IM relay

Volunteer at Richardson Regional Medical Center for 4 years as a junior volunteer. (Done about 200 hours so far)

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but please give me some input and thoughts.

Also, what could I possibly to to make my application "stand out" or increase my admission chances?

Thanks!

OHseven:

UCLA: Slight Reach (out of state)

If you get an A in your Summer Sessions course, I would consider that a hook.

what would be considered, percentage-wise, as a slight reach?

OHseven,

UCLA: slight reach (out of state)

would be match if in-state. also, first in family to go to college and low-income are slight hooks as well. i suggest you apply because your credentials are good despite being out-of-state.

maybe 40% in, 60% out?

more input/comments, please?

what could I possibly do to make my application "stand out" or increase my admission chances?

try to do better on the SAT if possible.

oh puhl... tsk tsk. it amuses me when you find people you know on CC.
