What are MY chances? :/

Hi, new to the board obviously...

In need of help.

I go to a public school and it's consider the top public school in our state but I don't think so.

Here's a review of my high school transcript:

(maybe that's why my school is good, ranks hard for finals and midterms lol...they only count 10% except for one of the because they broke up the two classes to make it more difficult)

EXTRA/SPORTS: no sports---because its hard to make it on the team, asian cultures and traditions club, italian american club, israeli american (kind of out of it, very boring), chess club (sort of in it), acapella group (treblemakers)....planning to be in a musical or play, I also play the piano and have been singing in choirs for about 5-7 years but I quit the groups and just stayed in the school to focus on school work. if i did play a sport it would be tennis.

My PSAT score was a 1580 out of 2400...and the PLAN was a 19-23

Here's my college choices:
I'm dying to get into these schools...
NYU, UofMICH, BU, UCI, UCSB, MSU, UCONN, Trinity College-Hartford, UofWIS-Madison, Syracuse University,....

You get the picture? The thing I'm worried about is that my classes aren't low but I'm not like a smart smart Asian to go up in AP or Honors (because obviously, you saw the failure from first semester).

Will colleges be discriminative in taking only smart asians? do you know what I mean? It's irritating me.

And what else should I do to improve?

Thanks! And sorry if I sounded cocky or something, im just really worried.

Again, thanks, please respond!

Oh, and most helpful can have a gmail invitation :D

you'll be fine. Look at UT-austin it's a really good school and you can get in with a 3.5. If u like big state schools like U of Mich u'll love it there

if u live in california, UC's except LA and BErk wouldnt be a prob.

well you've taken relatively easy courses and even then your GPA isnt high.. your PSAT is bad also.. sorry for being blunt.. and so at least for NYU, your chances are under 5% unless you have an incredible standout point or great community service achievements.. something that can balance out your academics

Ok no it's okay. I just have to know...I'm kind of in denial you know? Typical for a sophomore...I did better than 89% national on the PLAN and not sure about the PSATs but I take geometry and usually you take it when you take algebra II? Anyways, I'm taking it again next year, Junior year...

I've also got those Who's Who, People to People, National Honor Roll things but I'm not sure if those will help me in anyways cos a lot of people say its a scam...except for Who's Who.

Anyways, the school I really want to go to is UofMich-Ann Arbor, Wisconsin, NYU? and the rest...
but Michigan is my top choice (highly doubtful that I'll get in lol)

1580 is not bad for a sophomore. If you were really want to get into a good college you can up that score at least 300, if not more. A score around 1900-2000 would make you competitive at most of the schools you brought up.

Also, Jr grades are most important. So be sure to put in your best effort.

Best of luck to you...you have a long time. Don't worry abt it too much. =)

Oh I know, but it feels like I screwed up so much in this sophomore year.
Anything else I should concentrate on for a school like UofMich?

I know I do a lot of performing arts but I don't plan on majoring in it.
I really want to go into business/public relations so the arts don't really help do they unless I enter their performing arts program at college?

I assure you, it is junior year they would look at. Get your grades up a little ( no C's) and you shouldn't have any problems. 1580 isn't that bad, might need to go more towards 1800-1900 though. NYU will probably present the biggest challenge, but not too much. I sincerely wish you good luck, and have a great junior year and senior year. Don't spend them stressing about college, just enjoy the learning.
