What are my chances?

I am going to be a senior in September, and I am interested in pursuing business as a career, specifically Operations and Information Management or Consulting, not yet decided. My GPA is not too high (only a 4.024 on a scale of 5.0), but I am in top ten percent (though more towards the bottom half), I have strong standardized test scores, a decent amount of leadership positions, listed below, and 400 volunteer hours, along with long-lasting commitments outside of school. I also made National Merit Cutoff for the PSAT, and I am quite sure I will be a finalist.

my test scores are as follow:
SAT - 2260 (710 - CR, 780 - math/writing; i'm taking again to boost crit reading)
ACT - 35
Subject Tests - I am taking Mathematics Level 2, Physics, and Literature in October, but I am not too worried about those.

my leadership positions include the following:
Co-founder and Vice President of Future Leaders of America
Activities Coordinator of National Honor Society (largest organization on school campus)
Founder and President of SkillsUSA
Public Relations Officer for LASER Club (Science Fair)
President of DECA
Public Relations Officer for HOSA

I am also a member of
French Club, FBLA, and Math club

recently, i placed 1st at both Area and State Level for International Business in FBLA. At nationals, I placed 7th, so I hope that helps my chances

I played violin since 6th grade, but I had to stop in school last year due to scheduling issues. However, I DID continue learning violin outside of school, so I currently have more than 6 years of violin experience, and I can play two different styles of instrumental violin, Classical and Western. I am also interested in martial arts, but I am not as experienced in that respect.

I have volunteered at three hospitals (including the one I am currently volunteering at) as well as for three nonprofit organizations (which I've been a member of for at least 4 years), one adoption center (been a member for one year), and the city of Plano (two years). I currently have a job at a small business firm for the summer, but I intend to find a new job once school starts.

I already have teachers who are willing to do my recommendations, and I am sure that they will be amazing. As for my essay for my application, I'll do my best, but I'm not too bad of a writer.

How are my chances as to getting into UT Business Honors Program? What should I focus on? I did most of my research, but looking at people who actually made it, it looks like my GPA might cost me. Is there anything else I can do at this point to increase my chances?

and would this be good enough for other top tier business schools such as UVa McIntire, UC-Berkeley, USC, UMich, NYU, etc?

Surprisingly, I think your chances may be better at all of the other schools you listed because McCombs puts so much emphasis on class rank.

I have to agree. I would think you'll get in UVA, UMich, NYU, and maybe USC. But for Mccombs BHP, I'm not too sure. The average class ranking for the 2007 Mccombs class was 2-3%...something like that.

Trust me. Based on previous history of acceptances, you will get into the McCombs school of business. UT knows about the relative high degree of competition in the Plano district and will accept your rank in the top ten percent as good. Your high standardized test scores further prove your ability. A 1490 on the SAT and a 35 on the ACT are phenomenal. Do not let the top 2-3% statistics wary you.

This is only for regulars business though. I would still say you have a shot at BHP, but rank is much more important for BHP admissions than for regulars business. You stand out among the regulars business students because of your high SAT scores, but with BHP, you slightly lose that edge.

thanks for the feedback! :D

i know this isnt exactly in the right spot in the forums, but wat is the UC system's out of state acceptance rate? my top picks right now are Uva, NYU, UC Berkeley, and UT BHP. Any advice as to anything I can do to increase my chances would be greatly appreciated :D
