What Are My Chances?!

I was kind of curious about what kind of colleges would be willing to accept me at this point. Wel,l first of all i am an immigrant. I came here when was 16 and now i am 18.

My academic records are:-

9th Grade.- These are my out of country classes.
- They gave me all 5 A's and 1 B:(.

Next year i am planning to take 4 A.P's.

That's my Academic record till now.

As for My Sat's they were not very impressive:(.

SATI
- 1690 (M-640, V-550, W-500)------> i hate them, so i m gonna retake the test.
SATII
- 580 (Math IIC) ---> definitely retaking.
- 650 (U.S.H.)
- 620 ( Physics)----> retaking.

As for my extra-curricular activities:-
- I am member of the CSF(California Scholarship Federation)
- Did after school Math tutoring for 1 yr.
- Member of the Academic Decathlon Team.

So I would be very thankful, if you guys could provide me with some kind preliminary knowledge about what kind of colleges would accept me or be interested in me. Also, I would really appreciate if you could give me some other suggestions, that would help me raise my chances of getting into or atleast having a shot at the HYPMS. I believe i can bring my SAT upto 2000.

Thanks in advance for all advice.

b u m p....

bring up those SATs......and I mean above 700 and even 750. Try to strengthen your E.Cs

thx cardinal, i am really pushing for better scores on the Sat's. Any other suggestion or remarks about my present standing. Btw i think i m 5 or 4/278.

B U M P......

To have a reasonable chance at HYPMS, you would probably have to bring up every one of your scores to 700 (each section of the SAT+all SAT2's). You would also have to have decent EC's and community service. Your EC's now are few and uninteresting. You need to pursue an interest outside of school, so that you stand out from the other applicants. Maybe you could form an international club at your school, volunteer to teach other immigrants from your country English, etc.

maybe you should try the ACT

you can definately get into a lot of good colleges. just not the ones everyone talksk about. where do you want to go?

I am looking into various U.C's mainly UCB, UCSD and then as i said, i am really interested in Harvard, Caltech and M.I.T. , but i know that at this point i dont have very strong EC's and SAT scores. So i was wondering whether you guys could evaluate my chances of getting into these colleges. And thx a lot for replying people:).

doesnt look likely for harvard, cal tech, MIT.
assuming you live in CA, UCs are realistic, berkeley and LA would be reaches with your current scores.

Hey thanks a lot namaste :).
