I'm concerned about my son's chances for ivy leagues. We come from a family of ivy league graduates and it would be highly disappointing if my son was rejected, but as of right now I'm very worried.

While his chances seem adequate, my son was unfortunately arrested for video piracy.

A 2390 is disappointing? I would be over the moon if I had that score. His chances do seem adequate-- although he does not have anything particularly unique that serves as a hook. I think that is the biggest problem. He’s clearly got the brains-- it’s just the lack of “why to accept” syndrome.

Also, I have no idea how an arrest for video piracy plays into chances. I would assume that HYPS wouldn’t like that… they certainly have enough to people to pick from that are equally-qualified or perhaps less-qualified but with a hook, that haven’t been arrested.

But nonetheless, good luck, I’m sure your son will get in somewhere impressive-- even if it’s not ivy league. Ivies are only names-- it matters more what your son makes of college.

+1,000. It’s not about your kid. I say this as someone who attended a HYPS peer. If you are setting him up to consider himself a failure if he doesn’t get into an Ivy, STOP NOW. He might be a supurb student for whom an Ivy has zero appeal.

Eagle Scout is impressive (not enough young men stay in Scouting to achieve that). Congratulations. 20 years from now, people will still care he accomplished that. Good luck, however with the video piracy charges. (Doesn’t sound like he was remembering the Scout Law just then.)

oh come on, this is the most blatant ■■■■■ i’ve ever seen on cc. the fact that people fell for this makes me seriously concerned about the kind of people on this site…

No chance. Sorry. Maybe if you would have had 10,000 hrs of community service and a 2400. Oh and a letter of rec from the president would help too.

That is obviously inadequate because he also needs to have a 36 on the ACT, as well as 800’s on all SAT Subject tests.

Oh yeah, and Ivygolfer was right about having a letter of recommendation from the President. Obama graduated from Harvard, so it’s a definite must to get a letter from him. However, additional letters are needed, as if he wants to get into Princeton, he should get a letter of recommendation from Ben Bernanke, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, too as Bernanke is an alumni of Princeton. And as for Yale, he needs letters from former presidents Bush and Clinton. Stanford should be a little easier since it’s not politicians that are required for this uni. It’s possible to ask Hewlett and Packard to write a letter for Stanford.

Your son has a long ways to go, we’re all concerned with you. Good luck.

That depends. I usually don’t chance trolls. And if you really are a concerned father then tell your son you’re very proud of his accomplishments.
