what are my UC chances with my gpa?

I have this pressure for going to UC schools but I was wondering if I still had a chance. I have a 2.8 GPA but a large list of extra curricular activities and a high SAT score. I went through a lot of family problems which led to more personal problems so I couldn't do as well as I wanted.

Also, when a requirement is "c" or better, does that mean at the end of the school year or both semesters?

Unless your Weighted GPA (UC) is 3.0 or greater, you do not qualify to apply to any UC. See link for calculator: <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;
You also must get a C or better in all your a-g required classes. If you are on Semester system, then C’s or better both Semesters. If you are really set on attending a UC, you can go the CC route and TAG into the UC of your choice (except UCLA/UCB/UCSD.).You do not list your SAT or EC’s, but based on your GPA there really is no chance. Sorry…

I have above 2100 on my SAT and I’ve interned/volunteered at a movement rehabilitation along with 3 sports, music, and a language school. Would that improve any chance?

The UC’s are about numbers. GPA and SATs. The UCs have thousands of applicants with great ECs. You have to prove yourself in the classroom, among other students, in a teaching environment-with multiple teachers. These are institutions that teach first. With that GPA, the UCs wouldn’t trust you to get past the first semester.

UC Admissions requirements:

@rhonder‌: The 4 areas that the UC’s consider most are:

  1. GPA
  2. Test Scores
  3. Course Rigor
  4. Essays
    EC’s are considered but not weighed as heavily as GPA (especially)… since GPA is a reflection of your academic performance over your 4 years in HIgh School, while a test score is a reflection of 1 day in those 4 years. Did you calculate your UC GPA? If you qualify with at least a 3.0, then go ahead and apply, but just realize your chances are not great and you need to have several backup schools on your list. Good Luck.

Having above a 2100 sat and a 2.8 gpa looks awful to be honest. Unless you have very special circumstances it looks like you are very lazy. Many students say that family problems are the reason they struggled in school, it is a very typical excuse.

Your SAT will only help you if you fulfill the basic eligibility requirements. You must have a UC-weighted GPA of at least 3.0, and have taken the necessary courseload, to be considered at any of the nine campuses. If you meet those minimal criteria, your score might help you at some less-selective campuses, but your chances at UCLA, Berkeley, and UCSD are not good.
