You’d probably get some scholarship money at places like U of Kentucky, west Virginia U., u of Nebraska, Ohio University. They start out fairly cheap & with the scholarships would be even more affordable.
USNWR does take a look at undergraduate business programs. These schools mentioned on this thread make the top 50:
Indiana University: 9 (tie)
Babson: 32 (tie)
Syracuse: 43 (tie)
Bentley, Babson and Bryant are good choices.
If money is an issue, seriously research the SUNYs to see which ones have the best business programs
Should I apply to Baruch? I’m hoping to go to college in or near NYC if I can, or any other big city really if not New York.
Thank You!
Boston: Babson, BU, Bentley.
Around NYC: CUNY, Rutgers.
Location aside, within driving distance, the following universities have a solid business program: UConn, U of Delaware, UMass, Syracuse, better SUNYs, UVM, U. of Maryland.
Check out Villanova (probably a reach), Fordham, Catholic U and GWU.
Regarding Baruch, it all depends what you’re looking for. I’m sure it’s good academically, but if you want a traditional college experience, you should look elsewhere. It’s mainly a commuter school with no real campus.
Baruch would be excellent for business/finance. As stated above, you should consider this in the entire context of what you are seeking in a college experience.
Baruch is great for business majors indeed. However, it is academically average overall.
Thanks! I got most of the schools mentioned on my list now. Also, I thought TOEFL was very easy today, definitely better than the SAT. On the SAT I got 600 for English and 640 for math, do you think that if I get a good TOEFL score colleges can forgive my low SAT score for the English section? I’ve heard so many stories where people from other countries were getting into good colleges with low SATs but high TOEFL scores, so is it possible?
In my understanding, TOEFL and SAT are both designed to measure if you are ready for college-level material. I have taken a college class this spring actually and got an A-. Could that also maybe influence the admissions decision?
I don’t think most schools look at how high your TOEFL score is in determining your application. It’s more like a minimum threshold that you have to cross to be considered.
But if I am able to speak good enough English to go to school here, then I probably do cross that minimum? Yet many schools still require TOEFL and it’s quite expensive.
Selective colleges will generally like to see a minimum TOEFL score of 100 (internet-based). Beyond this, I haven’t heard of the score being a factor in admissions.
Check out Miami Ohio (Farmer), Penn State (Sneal), Fairfield (Dolan) and Rutgers
Well I hope I got 100 and above then, regardless of whether it’ll be useful or not.
You write as if you easily will, @annaheyworld.
Just got my TOEFL scores, I scored 103
